Chapter 156
It seemed Matteo had heard Raven mention they wouldn’t be joining them for the meal. Later, he walked over, shook hands with Johnny politely, and said, “We’ll leave now. Please do join us next time, Mr. Gray.”
Johnny replied, “…Of course.”
Matteo smiled, glanced at Freya, and then turned to leave with Raven and the others waiting at the door.
After lunch, Freya and Johnny returned to Wilson Tech. They had been back for a while when Raven and her team returned.
Around six in the evening, Freya and Johnny finished their work and planned to leave first. There was still some time left, so there was no rush to deal with the remaining matters. However, Raven and her team still seemed quite busy, showing no signs of leaving.
Kim said, “I heard they’ll continue working overtime tonight.”
Johnny replied, “…Oh.”
Freya said, “Let’s go.”
Johnny smiled, “I’ll treat you to a meal.”
Freya shook her head, “No, I have other plans.” Grandmother Wilson had ordered her to return to the old residence for dinner that evening.
When she arrived home, she found that Matteo and Isabella had already returned. Freya hadn’t expected Matteo to be back. She had thought he would stay at the company to accompany Raven.
When Matteo saw her return, he glanced at her briefly before continuing to type away on his computer.
During dinner, Matteo sat next to Freya. Seeing that she was busy with her phone, he suddenly spoke, “Do you have time later? I need to talk to you about something.”
Matteo didn’t take his eyes off his phone when he heard the words and simply replied, “Alright.”
Freya, reassured by his response, relaxed. The old lady had been talking to the housekeeper earlier and hadn’t heard their conversation clearly. Seeing them speaking, she smiled happily.
After dinner, the old lady had someone bring out the medicine for Freya. Matteo left the dining room to make a phone call.
After Freya finished her medicine and was about to leave the dining room, she heard the sound of a car approaching. Freya paused. “He’s leaving?”
The old lady was angry. “Yes, he left in such a rush. I don’t even know what he’s off to do.”
Freya furrowed her brows, guessing that he might be going to help Raven again with something at Wilson Tech. But he had promised to talk to her later. She hoped he would return tonight.
But Matteo didn’t come back. Things at Wilson Tech had been busy lately.
After having breakfast at the old house, Freya and Johnny gathered directly at the entrance of Wilson Tech. By the time they arrived, Raven and her team were already there.
Johnny said, “So early? No overtime last night?”
“Of course there was,” the General Manager replied. “But to catch up with the schedule, we had to come in early. We’re really pushing it.”
Johnny didn’t comment further, and Freya focused on her work.
About an hour later, just as Freya was thinking of going to the restroom, Matteo appeared. This time, he didn’t seem to be there for Raven. After entering, he greeted Raven from a distance and then walked toward them.
Johnny asked, “Wilson, is there something we can help you with?”
Matteo replied, “I’ve had some time these past couple of days to learn about the system you’ve developed. It looks impressive. However, I still have a few ideas I’d like to discuss with both of you.”
Johnny glanced at Freya, then said, “Please, go ahead, Wilson.”
Freya paused for a moment but still said, “Sorry, I need to use the restroom. Please go ahead.”
Johnny and Matteo nodded.
After Freya returned from the restroom and was a few steps away from them, a sharp cry of “Director Brown!” suddenly came from the meeting room, followed by a commotion.
Just as Freya was about to turn her head to look, she saw Matteo’s face change. He quickly rushed toward the meeting room. As he passed her, he accidentally bumped into her shoulder with great force. The pain from the impact made Freya almost lose her balance, but Johnny quickly came over to steady her. “Are you alright?”
Freya held her shoulder, where Matteo had bumped her, and shook her head. “I’m fine.”
At that moment, she saw Matteo enter the meeting room and quickly emerge, holding Raven, before disappearing.
The General Manager, noticing this, quickly asked, “What happened to Director Brown?”
“She fainted,” said the Manager. “I think she’s been overworking and got exhausted.”
Remembering how Matteo had rushed past her in concern for Raven, almost knocking her down, Johnny’s face darkened. He gritted his teeth. “She won’t be worked to death!”
The General Manager hesitated. He was at a loss for words, seeing how upset Johnny was. He awkwardly chuckled. “John, Wilson is just really worried about Director Brown. You don’t need to—”
Johnny shot a concerned glance at Freya. “Shut up!”
The General Manager quickly fell silent.
Freya didn’t really mind. Seeing how concerned Johnny was for her, she smiled slightly. “It’s not serious. It doesn’t hurt much anymore.”
Johnny pursed his lips. “Should we go home and rest for a while?”
Freya shook her head, patting his shoulder. “I’m not that fragile. Let’s continue working.”
Johnny responded with a subdued “Mm” but couldn’t help asking, “It’s been a while since you filed for divorce, why hasn’t it been finalized?”
