Chapter 200
After a few more exchanges, she ended the call. Just then, someone knocked and entered. “Director Brown, the meeting is about to start.”
“Got it,” Raven said as she set the phone down and left the office. On her way to the meeting room, she saw Freya talking to Mr. Kim about work. Although Raven knew the cooperation between Wilson Tech and Cole was ongoing, and that Cole’s technical staff would regularly come to Wilson Tech for system maintenance, she didn’t expect to run into Freya at Wilson Tech today.
Freya noticed her gaze. As soon as she saw it was Raven, she didn’t hesitate and turned her eyes away.
Around 10 AM, Freya turned to go to the restroom, but as she stepped out, she saw Matteo. He must have arrived recently, as he was leaning against the wall, seemingly waiting for someone. Without hesitation, she was about to walk past him when Matteo spoke up. “Grandmother fell last night and fractured her thigh bone. She needs a bone replacement.”
Freya abruptly stopped and turned back to face him. Matteo told her which hospital Old Madam Wilson was at, as well as her room number, then added, “She really wants you to go see her.”
Freya didn’t say anything and was about to leave when Raven happened to walk out. She was a little surprised to see Matteo; she hadn’t known he had come to Wilson Tech as well. And now, they were talking… She stopped, her lips pressed tightly together. Freya didn’t bother with them and immediately turned toward the restroom. By the time she came back, Matteo and Raven were no longer around. She resumed her work.
Around 11 AM, after completing the system maintenance, she and the Cole team left Xundu and returned to Cole. At lunch, Freya told her grandmother about Old Madam Wilson’s fall. Her grandmother was shocked. She said, “Come with me to the hospital to see her tonight.”
No matter what the relationship between Freya and Matteo was, Old Madam Wilson had helped the Miller family a lot when they were in their most difficult time. If it weren’t for Old Madam Wilson’s help back then, there would be no Miller family today. This kindness was something her grandmother would never forget.
Freya agreed, “Okay.”
Chapter 200
In the afternoon, Freya finished work early and went to the Miller family home for a meal. Then, she picked up her grandmother, and they headed to the orthopedic hospital. Freya wasn’t surprised to see Isabella. She reached out to gently pat her head. “You came after school, didn’t you?”
“Yes!” Isabella smiled brightly when she saw her, and then called out to Old Madam Wilson, “Great-grandmother.” Old Madam Miller responded softly, but before she could speak further, Matteo came out of the ward. Upon seeing them, he nodded in greeting. Old Madam Miller’s expression was cold, but she didn’t say anything. Freya merely glanced at him before shifting her gaze elsewhere.
Noticing that Isabella seemed like she wanted to talk to her, she said, “Mom and your great-grandmother will go inside to see your great-grandmother now.”
“Okay…” Isabella reluctantly held back her desire to speak, reaching out to take Freya’s hand as they went into the ward together. Matteo took the flowers and fruit basket that Freya and Old Madam Miller had brought, and followed them back into the ward.
When Old Madam Wilson saw Freya and Old Madam Miller arrive, she smiled with some surprise. “What brings you here?” Old Madam Miller, seeing how hard it was for her to sit up due to her injury, quickly stopped her. “How could you not tell us about such a big thing?”
At this point, Old Madam Wilson’s smile faded slightly as she glanced at Matteo, who was personally pouring water for Freya and Old Madam Miller, and said, “I really have no face to see you all…” Freya and Old Madam Miller took the water Matteo handed to them. Old Madam Miller then replied, “This is something between them, how can it be your fault?”
“But I-” Noticing that Isabella was still there, Old Madam Wilson didn’t continue her sentence. Old Madam Miller gently patted her hand. “I know.”
After a brief exchange of pleasantries, Old Madam Wilson turned her attention back to Freya. Since the last time Isabella participated in a school event, she hadn’t seen Freya. So now, she was sticking close to Freya, pressing her body into her legs, trying to climb up onto her lap. Freya had no choice but to put down her cup and lift Isabella onto her lap.
Seeing Old Madam Miller glancing at her, Isabella happily called out, “Grandma.” “Hey,” Old Madam Wilson smiled. With Isabella around, they couldn’t really discuss the matter between Freya and Matteo in detail. So Old Madam Miller and Freya mostly talked about Old Madam Wilson’s current condition.
Old Madam Wilson explained in detail that her surgery was scheduled for tomorrow. Old Madam Miller said, “Then I’ll come to accompany you tomorrow.” “That’s a trouble, my old friend.” Having Old Madam Miller visit her and chat would make her feel better.
After a while, Old Madam Wilson seemed to remember something and said, “You haven’t eaten, have you? Matteo, please arrange for—”
“No need,” Old Madam Miller interrupted, “Freya and I ate before coming.” She then coldly told Matteo, “If you and Isabella haven’t eaten, you should go ahead and eat.”
It had been a long time since Isabella had had a meal with Freya. Hearing this, she hugged Freya’s neck and said, “Mom, I really miss you. Come eat with us.”
Thinking back to what she saw last night, and hearing Isabella say she missed her, Freya lowered her eyes and smiled faintly before gently refusing, “Mom’s tired after working all day and doesn’t want to walk around. You two go eat.”
Hearing this, Isabella knew she couldn’t ask anymore. But she still snuggled into Freya’s embrace, unwilling to leave her side.
