Chapter 208
As Freya drove, not long after leaving the hospital, Grandman Miller seemed to remember something and suddenly said, “Matteo arrived at the hospital, but what about Isabella? Where did she go?”
Before Freya could respond, Grandma Miller’s expression darkened. Freya could tell from her expression that she was unhappy with how Matteo had left Isabella behind, coming to the hospital with Raven instead.
“He will arrange things properly,” Freya said.
But Grandma Miller didn’t seem to believe it. She said, “If he continues like this, Mag, you should file a lawsuit. No matter what, you must get custody of Isabella!”
Freya paused for a moment before calmly replying, “Alright.”
Grandma Miller was still not happy. Once they returned to the Miller family home, Grandma Miller was the first to get out of the car.
At this moment, Freya’s phone rang. It was Isabella calling; Freya didn’t answer. Perhaps because she had spent so little time with Isabella in the past few months and hadn’t answered her calls, she could clearly feel that Isabella had become clingier than before. It was as if she was trying to return to when she had been the only one taking care of her.
Her phone rang again. Freya glanced at it, but still didn’t answer. Instead, she turned off her phone and went into the house to join the family for dinner.
But just as she sat down, the house phone rang. Freya almost immediately guessed who was calling. She quickly stood up. “I’ll take the call.” She walked quickly out of the living room.
As expected, it was Isabella on the other end of the line. Hearing her voice, Isabella happily called out, “Mom!”
Freya responded and asked, “Have you eaten?”
“Not yet,” Isabella replied in a slightly sulky voice. “Mom, are you at Grandma’s house? I want to come over too. Can you eat with me later?”
Grandma Miller, hearing this, looked over and asked, “Is that Isabella on the phone?”
Freya could only answer, “Yes.”
“Does Isabella miss you?” Grandma Miller put down her bowl and walked over. “If she wants to come over, quickly contact Matteo and have someone bring her here. We’ll save some food for her.”
Freya said, “…Understood.”
She then spoke to Isabella, “Alright, come over now.”
“Okay!”
Before hanging up, Freya remembered something and added, “Tell your dad before you come over.”
“Got it.”
The Miller family was waiting to continue eating until Isabella arrived. Freya told them not to wait for her.
About an hour later, Isabella arrived at the Miller family home. As soon as she entered, she ran toward Freya. “Mom! I’m back!”
“Mm.” Freya adjusted her clothes and said calmly, “Let me reheat your food.”
“Okay!”
Isabella put down her little backpack and tablet and followed Freya into the kitchen. Jason and his wife had taken Xavier and the others to school, while Grandma Miller was still at home.
Seeing Isabella stick to Freya like a little tail, Grandma Miller smiled happily and didn’t disturb them as they reunited. Freya asked Isabella to wait outside. Isabella obediently sat in the dining room while Freya brought her the reheated food.
Isabella was actually a picky eater, and reheated food never tasted as good as freshly made dishes. Today, however, she wasn’t picky and ate happily.
While eating, she shared a funny story with Freya. “Mom, today I went out to play with Uncle He and Daisy.”
“Mm,” Freya replied.
After finishing her sentence, Isabella seemed to realize that Freya might not know who Daisy was, so she explained, “Daisy is my friend. She calls Uncle ‘Uncle Harry.’”
“Mm,” Freya answered, noticing how eager she was to share. She asked, “What did you guys do?”
“We went to explore a maze.”
“Mm.” Freya listened without much reaction, but Grandma Miller’s expression darkened.
Previously, when Matteo had taken Isabella back, Grandma Miller thought he would personally take care of her. Now, she realized that not only was he not taking care of her, he was too busy with Raven to do so and had even handed the responsibility over to someone else instead of letting Freya take care of Isabella. Her face became very unpleasant.
Isabella didn’t know what was going through Grandma Miller’s mind. She continued, “Uncle Harry invited me to have dinner with them, but I wanted to come back and eat, so I called you.”
“Mm.” Freya asked softly, “Did you thank Uncle Harry?”
“I did!” Isabella happily replied.
Freya didn’t ask any further. After finishing her meal, Isabella stayed in the living room to accompany Freya and Grandma Miller.
Grandma Miller sat next to Isabella and asked, “Would you like to stay at Grandma’s house for a little longer?”
Before Freya could respond, Isabella happily said, “Sure!”
Grandma Miller continued, “Since you agreed to stay with Grandma, you can’t go back on your word. You’ll stay at least for a week.”
“Okay!”
Freya frowned. Grandma Miller was very happy and lovingly patted Isabella’s hand.
As Isabella lowered her head to play games, Grandma Miller spoke to Freya. “A child raised by you is different. No matter what, Isabella still clings to you.”
Freya listened and just smiled. Isabella came over and asked Freya to play games with her.
Freya looked at her and said, “Are you sure?” She felt that Isabella might agree easily now, but in two or three days, she might regret it and want to go back to Matteo and Raven.
Isabella didn’t react at first. Two seconds later, she realized what Freya meant and said, “Of course, I’ve already promised Grandma.”
