Chapter 229

Harry had just hung up the phone when Daisy came running toward him, holding a small lantern. “Uncle, I want to video call Isabella!”

Harry paused for a moment before replying, “Okay.”

The video call went through, and Isabella quickly answered. As soon as she picked up, Daisy excitedly shared, “Isabella, look! A small lantern!”

Worried that the video might not show it clearly, Daisy asked Harry to hold the phone while she ran a little farther away, holding up the lantern to display it in full view. They were in a small garden where the lighting was dim. This made the glowing lantern stand out even more.

Isabella watched for a moment, slightly stunned. Before she could react, Daisy ran back and said, “This is my aunt’s New Year’s gift to me! Isn’t it beautiful? So cute?”

Many things from two or three years ago had become blurry memories for Isabella. But seeing Daisy holding the lantern triggered some faint images in her mind. She said, “Yes, it’s very beautiful and cute.” After a brief pause, she added, “I think I used to play with small lanterns too.”

Daisy’s eyes lit up. “Really? You don’t have one now?”

Isabella shook her head. “No.”

But the idea of running around a garden at night with a lantern seemed really fun. She couldn’t help but say, “I’m going to ask my dad to buy me one! Don’t hang up yet, let’s talk again in a bit!”

Before Daisy could respond, Isabella had already grabbed her phone and dashed upstairs.

On New Year’s Eve, a small portion of the extended family was allowed to celebrate at the Wilson household. At the moment, Matteo was socializing with some guests. When he saw Isabella running over, he excused himself briefly, then picked her up and walked away, asking, “What’s wrong?”

“That Aunt gave Daisy a small lantern, and I want one too.”

“A small lantern?” Matteo asked.

“Not the red ones that hang on the walls at home,” she explained. As she spoke, she held up her phone and said to Daisy on the other end of the line, “Daisy, show my dad the lantern.”

“Okay…”

Daisy stepped farther away, revealing the full view of the lantern. Matteo glanced at it and said to Daisy on the screen, “Got it, thank you, Daisy.”

Daisy replied, “You’re welcome.”

Matteo then turned to Harry, who was holding the phone, and asked, “Do you have any plans later?”

Harry paused before answering, “I might go out to celebrate the New Year. What about you?”

Matteo replied, “I’ll be going out later too.”

Harry guessed that it was likely because of Raven. After all, it was a special day, and Matteo couldn’t avoid seeing her. He didn’t ask where Matteo was going. Instead, he changed the subject, saying, “Were you still busy earlier?”

“Mm, there are still guests at home.”

Harry was well aware of the situation at the Wilson household. Since Matteo had taken the role of head of the family, he couldn’t have a relaxed time during the New Year either. He said, “Then I’ll let you get back to it.”

Matteo replied, “Okay.”

Before handing the phone back to Isabella, he paused for a moment, smiling as he said, “Happy New Year.”

“Mm, Happy New Year.”

Matteo returned the phone to Isabella and said, “You can chat with Daisy now. I’ll get someone to buy you a small lantern.”

“Okay!”

After that, Matteo walked away. Harry also handed the phone back to Daisy so she could talk to Isabella.

Earlier, when they had asked each other about their plans, Harry didn’t ask where Matteo was going, and similarly, Matteo hadn’t invited him to join his plans for the evening. Since Matteo hadn’t asked, it seemed likely that he didn’t want to be disturbed tonight.

After setting off fireworks, Freya and Xavier said their goodbyes to Grandma Miller and headed out. They went to the broadcasting and TV tower in the capital city. The broadcasting and TV tower in the capital city was an excellent spot to overlook the entire city’s nightscape. On New Year’s Eve, there would also be exciting light shows and other performances. By the time they arrived at the tower, it was already crowded with people. Laughter and cheerful voices filled the air. At this time, the light show hadn’t started yet. Some of Hugo’s classmates had arranged to meet up at the broadcasting tower to ring in the New Year together. After arriving, Hugo joined his friends.

When they saw her and Xavier, a few of Hugo’s classmates obediently called them “sisters,” and couldn’t help but glance at Freya. One of them whispered to Hugo, “Your sister is so beautiful! Super beautiful!”

Hugo proudly replied, “Of course!”

The young people started playfully taking pictures and recording videos, turning the scene into a lively mess. Freya and Xavier didn’t disturb them.

At this moment, Freya’s phone rang. It was a message from Harry: [Are you going to the broadcasting tower to watch the light show tonight?]

Freya didn’t understand why he was asking but still replied: [I’ve already arrived, why?]

Harry quickly replied: [Daisy and I are also on our way.]

Freya was a bit surprised: [Oh…]

What a coincidence.

Harry didn’t reply after that.
