After work, urged by Lauren, Jane returned to the Brown family home. Before she entered the gate of the Brown family mansion, she noticed several unfamiliar luxury cars parked outside. Before coming to the capital, she had heard Lauren and others mention that many powerful and influential people in the capital were aware of the relationship between Raven and Matteo. It was well-known within those circles how well Matteo treated Raven. At the time, Jane hadn’t fully understood this, but now, seeing how many prominent figures came daily to the Brown family to mingle and ask for favors, she realized just how influential the Brown family had become in the capital.
Learning of these high-status people and their intentions to seek out the Brown family made Jane astonished at first. It wasn’t until this moment that she truly understood the extent of Matteo’s assistance to both the Brown and Green families, which was far greater than she had initially thought. However, when Jane saw these powerful people interacting with Lauren, she noticed how cautious her mother was in these interactions, while Raven remained calm, uninterested in dealing with them, even avoiding them altogether. Despite this, these guests still remained polite and tried to please her. Seeing the luxury cars in the yard, Jane understood that the Brown family had more visitors today.
Jane quietly entered through the side door, went upstairs, and didn’t attract any attention. Raven was also on the second floor, enjoying some peace and quiet. Upon seeing Jane, she glanced over and asked, “Done with work?”
Jane paused. “Yes.” Since she had already been in contact with Harry, Raven was confident that Jane’s job at Becker Group wouldn’t be an issue. So, Raven wasn’t overly concerned about the news of Jane’s new job. Raven turned a page in her book, but then, as if recalling something, she looked up and asked, “Did Harry say anything to you when you met him?”
Jane, seeing that Raven was reading, couldn’t help but admire her focus. Moreover, she had heard that Raven had recently participated in some tech conferences and earned the favor of several influential figures. As she was lost in thought, she snapped back to reality at Raven’s question and said, “I didn’t meet Mr. Becker.”
Raven paused, surprised. “Harry didn’t reach out to you?”
“No, he didn’t.” Raven thought that once Harry knew about Jane’s relationship with her, he would contact Jane and offer her some help. But she worried it might have a negative effect on Jane. Thinking about it, Raven replied, “It’s nothing.”
Jane nodded, and without saying anything further, she went back to her room. Raven put down her book and called Harry. After a while, Harry answered the phone.
“Hello?”
Raven smiled. “I already know that my cousin has joined Becker Group. Thank you, Harry. Do you have time in the next couple of days? I’d like to invite you to dinner.”
Harry rejected her politely. “Your cousin entered the company on her own merits. You don’t need to thank me.” If he hadn’t paid attention to Jane, how would he have known that she got the job on her own? Raven smiled but didn’t press the issue. Just as she was about to speak, Harry interrupted, “I have some things to take care of. Let’s talk next time?”
Raven knew Harry had been busy lately. She replied, “Alright.” After finishing, she hung up without hesitation. She didn’t actually have any urgent matters; she had wanted to call Freya. After Raven hung up, Harry dialed Freya’s number. Freya was still at Cole when she saw his call. She picked it up, “Mr. Becker?”
Hearing her voice, Harry’s gaze softened, and he said, “It’s been a while since I’ve seen you. Are you free this weekend? Let’s find some time to go out and take a walk.”
Freya glanced at the data she was organizing on her computer and replied, “I’m not free in the next couple of days. How about next week?”
Hearing that she was unavailable, Harry lowered his gaze and said, “No worries, let’s make it next week.”
“Alright.” Freya’s attention was still on her data model, and after saying that, she added, “Let’s leave it at that for now?”
Harry responded with a simple, “…Okay.” Freya hung up the phone. She was so busy that she didn’t leave Cole until after 10 PM. The next morning, she went to the Yves family’s old house. When Old Master Yves had gone abroad for medical treatment, Isabella was already over two years old. At that time, Isabella was especially cute and was quite close to Old Master Yves. Old Master Yves really liked her. When he went abroad, he was reluctant to leave Isabella behind. Back then, Matteo hadn’t really taken an interest in Isabella; he must have. Old Master Yves had returned to the country after such a long time, and when he had invited them over previously, it was clear that he was very eager to see Isabella. But Matteo didn’t bring her along—he brought Raven instead… Old Master Yves said that Isabella would be coming this time.
However, when Freya arrived at the Yves family’s old house, Isabella had not yet arrived. Upon seeing her, Old Master Yves smiled and said, “I’ve had people prepare lots of delicious food for you. Don’t forget to eat more later.”
Freya smiled and replied, “Okay.”
