Chapter 66

They knew Yale had recently recommended a friend to Johnny, but lacking further details, they were unsure of the situation. What happened with Freya today mirrored an incident from last year. The girl involved then was the mistress of a senior executive. She was sweet-faced, confident, and charming, claiming to be a graduate student from a top domestic university with a strong background in the field. However, questioning revealed her complete lack of knowledge, even of basic professional terminology. Ultimately, they doubted she had ever attended university, suggesting she might not have even finished high school.

Now, the same scenario had repeated, with Johnny dismissing a colleague with an impressive resume to make way for someone like Freya. Yale's anger was understandable. Many felt Johnny was conflating personal feelings with professional matters. Johnny noted the others' attitudes but didn't immediately address them. He simply asked, “What work has Yale been involved with recently?” Simon, who had worked with Yale, summarized the details. Johnny nodded and turned to Freya. “Since Yale is stepping down, could you take over his remaining tasks?”

Freya readily agreed. “Sure.” She confidently addressed the others: “In the future, I look forward to working with you all.” The others smiled politely but lacked enthusiasm, hoping Freya possessed the necessary skills and wouldn't leave them with all the work. Simon, having worked with Yale, looked troubled but politely replied, “The materials are all here. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me.” Freya responded, “Alright, thank you.” Simon thought, “Well, at least her attitude is good.”

After leaving Cole Corporation, Yale immediately called Raven.

“Freya started working at Cole?”

“Yes.” Yale found this odd. “You didn’t know?” Hadn't Freya's actions in pushing Raven out enabled her to join Cole?

“I didn’t know.” Raven suspected Johnny had refused to hire her to spite Freya. Freya's presence at Cole implied she had left Wilson Group.

Yale paused. “Then what was the private reason you mentioned before?”

Raven avoided specifics. “Some personal grudges.”

“But—”

“What’s wrong?” Yale had misunderstood; her resignation was unrelated to Raven.

Yale pressed, “What about Freya’s abilities? I heard she hasn’t even gotten into a PhD program yet, she—”

“She hasn’t even gone to graduate school; she only has an undergraduate degree,” Raven interrupted coldly.

“Ah? Really?” Yale asked, surprised.

“Mm,” Raven replied coldly.

Raven's indifference was evident. She hadn't expected Freya to leave Wilson Group. Even more surprising was Freya's pursuit of another company instead of further education. Raven admitted she lacked Freya's vision and ambition.

Yale asked, “Raven, what are you planning to do next?”

“I have an official car racing competition coming up. I’ll need to spend quite a bit of time practicing. I’ll consider work after a while.”

“Oh, I see…” Yale knew Raven was capable of anything. He often wondered how she juggled so many activities without compromising her professional expertise. However, given her talent, he recognized her unique approach. Her boldness implied a clear plan.

Meanwhile, at Wilson Group, Matteo shuffled papers without looking up. He told Chad, “Get me a cup of coffee.”

“Yes, sir.”

This was Sherry's first time personally making coffee for Matteo. She was excited and nervous. Following Freya's instructions, she carefully brewed the coffee, which Chad delivered to Matteo. Matteo set down his documents, took the coffee, and stirred it gently. He paused before bringing the cup to his lips.
