Chapter 68
Levi raised an eyebrow. Freya bit her lip, quickly looked away, and gently pushed Johnny aside. Johnny, oblivious to Matteo and the others, looked at her with concern. “Did you twist your ankle?”
Freya shook her head. “No.”
“Good. Let’s go.”
“Mm.”
Freya didn’t look back at Matteo and the others, walking up the stairs with Johnny. Seeing Freya’s reaction, Levi looked at Matteo with disbelief. “That was your wife, right?”
Matteo didn’t reply.
“She acted like she didn’t see us, yet walked so closely with Johnny. Is this her new strategy to win you over? Trying to get your attention on purpose?”
Before Matteo could respond, Levi chuckled. “She’s got some tricks up her sleeve.”
Matteo remained silent, only saying faintly, “Let’s go.”
By the time they arrived at the private room, Raven and Isabella were already there. Raven asked, “What’s so funny?”
Levi laughed. “Nothing, just met someone interesting.”
After dinner, Matteo and Isabella returned home. After getting out of the car, Isabella ran upstairs happily, calling, “Mommy, Mommy!” Aunt Sara heard the noise and came out of the kitchen. “Madam hasn’t returned yet.”
“Huh?” Isabella looked disappointed. “Why is Mommy so busy lately?”
Complaining, she went upstairs. Seeing that Matteo was standing still, Aunt Sara asked, “Sir?”
Matteo shook his head. “It’s nothing.” Then, he also went upstairs.
That night, Matteo realized that Freya hadn’t returned. The next morning, Isabella woke up, expecting the breakfast Freya usually prepared. Seeing a different breakfast on the table, she frowned. “Didn’t Mommy get up to make breakfast?”
“Madam’s not at home,” Aunt Sara answered.
Isabella was confused. “Where did Mommy go? Did she go back to Grandma’s house again?”
“Probably…” Aunt Sara couldn’t say for sure.
Isabella looked at Matteo. “Daddy…”
Matteo spoke slowly, “If you want to know, call her yourself.”
“Then I’ll ask her tonight,” she said.
Meanwhile, after finishing breakfast, Freya went to the office. Upon arriving at the company, Johnny was about to discuss a new product’s development with Freya when his phone rang. The person on the other end asked, “Did your company offend the Wilson family recently?”
“What?” Johnny was stunned and, looking at Freya, turned on the speakerphone. “Someone from the Wilson family wanted to cause trouble for your company, but we managed to stop them.”
Upon hearing this, Freya froze, her fingers clenching into fists. After that dinner, Matteo hadn’t confronted her about bullying Raven with Johnny, and she thought he wasn’t going to pursue it. It turned out he hadn’t ignored it; he simply couldn’t be bothered to argue with her, using actions to make it clear that since she had harmed Raven, she would have to pay the price!
At this point, Johnny understood. He patted Freya’s hand and reassured her, “Don’t worry. Our company has close ties with the government. They can’t do anything to us.”
“Mm.”
Thankfully, that was the case. Otherwise… to get back at Raven, with Matteo’s power and financial resources, even if Cole wasn’t completely ruined, it would definitely suffer a huge blow. He really does protect Raven tightly!
Johnny, feeling a little concerned, asked, “Now that they can’t target Cole, will they go after the Miller family?”
Freya shook her head. “No.” With Old Madam Wilson around, Matteo wouldn’t easily target the Miller family; he still had to give face to Old Madam Wilson.
“That’s a relief…” Johnny breathed out.
Later that evening, as the workday neared its end, Freya received a phone call from Isabella. “Mommy, when are you coming home? I’m so hungry!”
“Didn’t I ask Aunt Sara to make you something?” Freya replied.
“But I want to eat the crab cake you make.” Isabella added, her previous meal request left untouched, making her desire even stronger.
Freya didn’t want to go back.
