Chapter 102: Falling in Love
Hudson was momentarily speechless.
โHello, are you a family member of Alice Sullivan? Regarding todayโs kidnapping case, weโll need you to accompany us to the station to assist with the investigation,โ an officer said.
Hudson nodded and drove Olivia and Alice to the station. At the station, through Olivia and Aliceโs recounting, Hudson finally understood just how dangerous the situation had been. The familyโs own bodyguards had betrayed them, colluding with outsiders in an attempt to kidnap his sister. If Olivia hadnโt been there, Hudson didnโt dare imagine what might have happened to Alice.
โThis was due to our familyโs poor oversight, and you were dragged into it. Iโm truly sorry,โ Hudson said sincerely after informing his parents of the incident.
โEveryone runs into trouble at some point. You couldnโt have known before it happened. But next time, make sure Alice doesnโt go out alone,โ Olivia said, sitting in a chair.
Alice was only eight years old. A young child from a wealthy family wandering alone was basically an easy target for anyone looking to make a quick profit.
โWeโll be more careful in the future. We usually keep an eye on her, but this time she snuck out,โ Hudson sighed.
After experiencing such a scare, Alice realized her mistake. She lowered her head silently, staring at her little shoes.
โWell, youโre all busy, but since itโs her birthday today, you should spend it with her,โ Olivia said.
Hudson paused, a string of question marks popping into his mind. โHer birthday? Aliceโs birthday was last month.โ
Oliviaโs mouth twitched slightly as she turned to look at Alice, who kept her head down. No wonder Aliceโs pitiful words earlier felt oddly familiar to Olivia, like the lines came straight out of a TV drama.
So, this little brat has been messing with me?
Alice wished she could find a hole to crawl into. How am I supposed to recover from being called out by Hudson on the spot? Help!
Hudson, realizing what Alice had done, felt utterly exasperated. Glancing at Olivia, he noticed a smear of blood on her glasses. He pulled out a tissue and handed it to her.
โHuh?โ Olivia, who had washed her hands earlier, hadnโt realized her glasses were also stained. Taking the tissue, she removed her glasses to wipe them clean.
The moment Olivia removed her glasses, Hudson froze in place. Without the glasses, Olivia revealed a pair of eyes that sparkled like stars, bright and captivating. Her pale, snow-like complexion, framed by her dark hair, appeared almost translucent. Her slightly lowered gaze, paired with long, fan-like lashes, cast a soft shadow over her eyes. Hudson had never imagined that behind those glasses was a face so breathtakingly beautiful. Even someone as accustomed to seeing beautiful women as Hudson found himself momentarily stunned. Olivia was stunning!
Up until now, Hudsonโs interest in Olivia had stemmed more from her talent and his uncleโs high regard for her. He had thought of her as an intriguing girl. But in this instant, Hudson felt his heartbeat skip a beat.
Oblivious to the fact that her true appearance had been exposed, Olivia put her now-clean glasses back on, the oversized black frames once again hiding most of her face. This brought Hudson back to reality from his daze. Noticing Hudson still staring at her, Olivia gave him a puzzled look. Even with the thick glasses back in place, Hudsonโs mind couldnโt stop replaying the image of her eyes. For a brief moment, Hudsonโs face grew warm.
