Rebirth of a Flopped Actress: Career First, Love Second
Chapter 139: Would Olivia See Him as Creepy?
The moment Chris offered to drive Olivia home, everyone, including Chris himself, was left dumbfounded. Chris thought, "Oh no, did I actually just say that?"
Olivia arched an eyebrow. โHey, the sceneโs over. Time to snap out of it.โ She turned on her heel and entered the dressing room without another word.
Chrisโs face turned beet red, and with a yelp of embarrassment, he darted into his private dressing room. Oh my God! That was the dumbest thing Iโve ever done! Someone help me! Does Olivia think Iโm a creep now?
Outside, Chrisโs agent stood by the dressing room door looking utterly defeated.
Amelia, having witnessed the entire awkward exchange, couldnโt shake her growing unease. Oliviaโs beauty and acting had both exceeded expectations, which only heightened her anxiety. What unsettled her even more was Oliviaโs complete indifference to her presence. In the past, Olivia would have eagerly approached her the moment they crossed paths. Now, it was as though Amelia didnโt exist.
Noticing the absence of both Daniel and Eve, Amelia composed herself and knocked on Oliviaโs dressing room door after seeing her go inside.
When Olivia opened the door and saw Amelia standing there, her expression remained calm, showing no sign of surprise.
โOlivia, your performance today was incredible,โ Amelia said, her face glowing with a seemingly genuine smile, as though she were truly proud of her.
Olivia looked at Amelia, the sister she had cherished and trusted in her past life. โThank you,โ she replied coolly before turning around to grab her coat. There were no pleasantries, no warm affection that Amelia had expected. Oliviaโs attitude was shockingly indifferent.
โI was a little worried about you before, but after seeing your performance today, Iโm relieved,โ Amelia said, stepping into the dressing room with Daisy following behind. Daisy quietly shut the door behind them.
Once the door was closed, Ameliaโs tone shifted slightly. โOlivia, about Jamesโฆ Mom and Dad were upset for a while, but Iโve already smoothed things over with them. You should come home for dinner when you have time.โ
Jamesโs recent arrest for stealing a car had infuriated the Carter family parents.
โIf theyโre upset, they can take it up with the carโs owner,โ Olivia replied coolly, fully aware of what Amelia was trying to imply. But she wasnโt the gullible person she had been in her past life.
Amelia had anticipated gratitude, but Oliviaโs mention of Alexander took her by surprise. In truth, Amelia had only stepped in to calm their parents once she learned the car James had stolen belonged to Alexander. If the matter escalated, it would only spell trouble for the Carter family.
โJames is still young. He can be reckless at times, but he didnโt mean any harm. Heโs just a little too playful,โ Amelia said, attempting to defend him.
Olivia finished putting on her coat and replied bluntly, โHeโs old enough to be charged as an adult.โ
Amelia was left speechless.
โIs there anything else?โ Olivia asked, her tone calm but detached.
Amelia opened her mouth, but no words came. Oliviaโs behavior today was so uncharacteristic that it left her unsure of how to respond.
โIf not, Iโll be heading out,โ Olivia said, showing no interest in prolonging the conversation. Sharing a production set with Amelia meant there would be plenty of time for future exchanges. Without waiting for a reply, she pushed open the door and walked out, leaving Amelia standing frozen in place, her expression stiffening.
Daisy, watching Olivia leave, frowned in annoyance. โThatโs your sister? You went out of your way to recommend her for this role, and thatโs how she treats you? Just because she got a bit of praise from Mr. Jos, she suddenly thinks sheโs a star? Even if her tiny agency poured every resource into her, sheโd never reach your level.โ
Amelia clenched her fists, silently relieved she had signed Olivia to a small agency early on. With her beauty and acting talent, it would have been nearly impossible to stop her rise.
โSheโs probably just tired from filming,โ Amelia said softly.
Daisy rolled her eyes. โSure, keep being nice to her, and youโll see.โ
