Chapter 143: A Tool Should Know Its Place
As Olivia reached the entrance of the JN Jewelry store, she suddenly stopped. When Alexander caught up to her, she reached out her hand and naturally looped her arm around his. Alexander glanced down at her, noting how easily she clung to him, as if the aloofness she'd shown earlier was entirely forgotten.
โHoney, you need to help me pick something nice today,โ Olivia said with a sweet smile, looking every bit like a woman lost in her own happiness.
Alexander raised an eyebrow slightly. If sheโs not acting, heโs wasting an incredible talent.
Inside the store, Georgina was busy reviewing some of her latest designs, with her staff standing respectfully behind her.
โWelcome.โ
Hearing the greeting, Georgina glanced toward the door, noting a new customer had arrived. Running this store was more of a personal hobby and a way to showcase her talent, so she rarely paid much attention to the clients. Normally, she didnโt even visit the store often, only showing up for quarterly check-ins like today.
โMs. Georgina, what a pleasant coincidence to see you here today,โ said a familiar voice.
Georgina turned quickly to see Olivia entering, arm-in-arm with Alexander. The sight immediately darkened her expression. Why are they here together? Oliviaโs close interaction with Alexander made Georginaโs chest tighten. How is this possible? Alexander has always kept his distance from her; why is he now letting her act so intimate?
โAlex, Ms. Carter, what brings you two here today?โ Georgina asked, forcing a smile as she pushed down the sourness welling up in her chest.
Her gaze lingered on Alexander, as handsome and godlike as ever, a man she couldnโt help but yearn for. Yet Oliviaโs presence beside him was a cruel reminder that this man was out of her reach. Jealousy burned within her.
โDidnโt we say weโd come to support Ms. Georginaโs business? So here we are! I didnโt expect to find you here today as well,โ Olivia said brightly, her smile unwavering. Of course, Olivia knew this was the exact day Georgina always visited her store.
Georgina forced another smile. โMs. Carter, youโre too thoughtful. As it happens, Iโve just finished designing some new pieces. Feel free to take a look.โ
Olivia didnโt hesitate and began browsing the store with Alexander at her side.
The sight of them moving so closely together was like a slap to Georginaโs face. She clenched her teeth, struggling to maintain her composure. Something about Oliviaโs sudden appearance today felt deliberate, but Georgina couldnโt decide if Olivia was truly capable of scheming at this level.
Ms. Carter, if you find anything you like here, youโre welcome to visit anytime. Alex is always so busy with work; perhaps it would be better for him to rest more whenever possible, Georgina said, her gaze shifting to Olivia, who clung tightly to Alexander.
She added, โMs. Carter, since Iโve known Alex since we were kids, I couldnโt help but say this. I hope you donโt take offense.
Olivia turned to look at her, expression calm. โI understand. Actually, I feel bad for him. But today, when he heard I was planning to go shopping, he couldnโt stop me no matter how much I tried,โ she said with a soft sigh, as if lamenting Alexanderโs stubbornness.
Alexander gave Olivia a pointed look. Who was the one who called me specifically to drag me out? And even used Liam to back her up?
Noticing his gaze, Olivia gently squeezed his arm and mouthed silently, โLiam.โ
Georginaโs eyes narrowed slightly. Sheโs growing bolder every day. Was the meek and timid Olivia from before the real her, or is this her true nature?
Olivia, unfazed by his reaction, smirked inwardly. Sorry, but this is how it is now. A tool must know its place, and youโre my tool today!
