Chapter 369: Greed Swallows More Than It Can Handle
Even though Byron thought Olivia was just causing trouble, he didnโt want Dexton to continue suspecting his wife and child. Byron was quite confident in his mistress.
Olivia, without a word, suddenly grabbed Byronโs wrist, checking his pulse. Byron was shocked, but Olivia simply let go without explanation.
Later that night at the Moore family mansion, Emily said, โHow is Daxton? I rushed over as soon as I heard the news.โ She was over forty but looked only in her early thirties due to excellent maintenance.
Upon arriving at the Moore family estate, Emily weakly fell into Byronโs arms.
โThe situation isnโt goodโฆโ Byron, intent on proving his loverโs innocence, played along as Olivia had instructed.
Then, Byron led Emily upstairs to see Daxton, who was now unconscious. Thanks to Oliviaโs machinations, Daxton appeared deathly pale and breathless in bed, looking completely spent.
Olivia, dressed as a maid, stood by the bed and watched as Byronโs darling shed tears for Daxton, but she keenly noticed a flicker of schadenfreude in the womanโs eyes.
Unable to bear seeing his mistress so upset, Byron quickly excused her to rest. Emily, dabbing at her tears, was escorted out by the maid. She thought the maid looked somewhat familiar but was too distracted to dwell on it.
โWhereโs Dr. Greer?โ Emily suddenly asked. Greer was Daxtonโs trusted family physician who had served him for many years.
The maid replied, โDr. Greer had some family matters and isnโt here, but heโs been contacted and is on his way back.โ The woman nodded slightly.
As she reached the hall, she unexpectedly ran into Greer, who had just returned to the Moore family estate. The moment they saw each other, a hint of recognition flashed across their faces.
โI can rest on my own; you can go back,โ Emily quickly excused the maid and then walked towards the garden after giving Greer a glance.
In the garden, Greerโs voice was full of accusation: โWhatโs going on? I was only out for two days, and Daxton suddenly falls ill?โ
Emilyโs voice carried a hint of glee: โWho knows? But heโs old, and it was about time. Besides, with the drugs youโve been giving him over the years, heโs lucky to have lasted this long.โ
As she spoke, her voice filled with laughter: โIsnโt it better if he dies sooner? If not for him, I would have been the legitimate lady of the Moore family long ago, instead of being unrecognized as I am now. Blame his bad luck for having a fool for a son who thinks heโs a romantic hero but is just an idiot happy to be aโฆโ
Assured, as long as you do as I say, I wonโt let you down. As they say, a night of marriage owes a hundred days of grace. You helped me deal with the Moore familyโs troublemaker, and I will surely reward youโฆ
As she spoke, her hand naturally climbed up Greerโs chest.
Greer, pale and both shocked and agitated, regretted falling for Emilyโs schemes which had brought him to this point. But it was too late to back out, and he embraced Emily, kissing her passionately.
Just as the couple indulged in their affection, all the lights in the garden suddenly turned on! A burst of blinding light focused directly on them!
