Chapter 389: Was Liliana Really Beaten?

“Nowadays, there’s delivery service everywhere. Back in the village, we used to grow our own vegetables,” Olivia remarked, taking a bite of a radish. “Tsk, it’s nowhere as sweet as the ones from the village.” Having been away for so long, Olivia greatly missed the pure, pollution-free food from her village.

Hearing Olivia’s words, Brody and Paul’s perception of her changed. Living in a village… in the mountains? And they had to grow their own food? An image of a remote, impoverished mountain village suddenly formed in their minds. Thinking of Olivia growing up in such harsh conditions—undernourished and poorly clothed—they felt a deep sympathy for her.

No wonder her idea of a feast is a one-dollar soup noodle. In her view, one dollar was a week’s living expenses. She’s really had it tough!

“Here, have some more.” Brody placed his untouched meat into Olivia’s bowl. Paul silently moved all the quail eggs from his bowl into hers. Then, they solemnly began eating the feast Olivia had frugally treated them to, touched by her gesture.

Olivia was confused. Why were they acting like they’re reliving their hardships? And… the food here is unlimited; why are they passing it to me? Picky eaters?

To ensure Olivia’s feast wasn’t wasted, Paul and Brody threw their dignity aside and, under Olivia’s bemused gaze, downed eight bowls of soup noodles like a typhoon sweeping through leaves, to the soup vendor’s horror. Olivia went quiet. I suddenly felt a bit sorry for the vendor.

While Paul and Brody were busily not wasting a single cent, Brody’s phone suddenly rang. He answered the call. It was their mother, Elowen, on the line, sounding frantic.

“Where are you? Come back quick, Liliana’s been hurt!” Elowen’s voice was filled with urgency.

“Hurt?” Brody was taken aback.

Elowen replied, “Liliana was attacked by a thug, come back quick!”

Brody was stunned. His gaze instinctively turned to Olivia.

His head full of doubts, Brody suddenly kicked the stool from under Paul, “Stop eating, we have to go.” Paul, who ended up on the floor, was also stunned.

Olivia looked at Brody, who opened his mouth and… “Just got a call from my boss; he needs the car back.” Olivia waved them off. Brody dragged Paul back to the car.

Paul, “Why’d you kick me? What’s the rush?”

Brody gripped the steering wheel, his expression complex. “Liliana’s been hurt.”

Paul. “What? Hurt?” He was stunned.

Brody, “I don’t know the details yet, let’s just go see.”

Though Brody wanted to believe it was nothing serious, he could sense the anxiety and pain in Elowen’s voice. Soon, Brody and Paul arrived at the private hospital run by the Kenneth family. Outside the hospital room, a beautiful and elegant middle-aged woman wiped away tears.

“Mom, what happened to Liliana?” Brody immediately asked upon seeing Elowen.

Elowen struggled to speak as tears fell first. She gestured towards the hospital room. “Go in and see for yourselves.”
