Brody and Paul exchanged uneasy glances. As they entered the hospital room and saw Liliana on the bed, they were utterly shocked. Her legs were encased in thick casts. Her usually delicate face was unrecognizable, bruised and swollen like a battered pumpkin. In an instant, Brody and Paul were dumbfounded. Was this really Liliana?

Elowen entered the room, and upon seeing the half-dead Liliana, her tears flowed freely.

“You two, as brothers, what are you even good for? It’s only now you show up! Do you know Elowen was almost beaten to death by a thug in her own company’s garage today!”

Brody and Paul were both silent. They not only knew; they had just finished having soup noodles with the thug. “How is Liliana now?” Brody asked.

Brody and Paul were speechless. Normally, knowing who had hurt Liliana, they would have immediately sought vengeance without a second thought. She felt intense pain all over, her head buzzing. Her mouth was full of the taste of blood. Olivia’s threat of “leaving no witnesses” echoed in her ears as she suddenly opened her eyes, relieved only when she saw Elowen, Paul, and Brody by her bed.
