Chapter 392: Youโre the Prime Suspect
The stench was so foul that Paul, still full from the soup noodle feast, nearly vomited. Brody immediately took a sample of the fluid for testing. The results, however, left him baffled.
โWhatโs happening to Lilianaโs face?โ Elowen asked anxiously.
Brody replied, โThe lab results suggest itโs chickenpox.โ
But the results didnโt make sense. Lilianaโs symptoms looked nothing like ordinary chickenpox. How could it spread so quickly? Andโฆwhy did it stink so badly?
In truth, Lilianaโs condition was even worse than Brody initially thought. Over the next few days, Brody witnessed her facial wounds rot at an alarming speed, only for new flesh to grow back just as quickly. The alternating pain of rotting flesh and the itch of regenerating skin was a relentless torment.
Every day, Liliana watched her once-beautiful face turn into a grotesque, bloody mess, only to have it regrow into fresh skin before starting to decay all over again. Disfigurement became Lilianaโs daily reality. Brody and the Kenneth familyโs top doctors held multiple consultations but couldnโt find a solution.
It was as if Liliana had been cursedโher facial tissue cycled between destruction and regeneration, yet the pain never ceased. Even Liliana herself couldnโt predict when the next patch of skin would suddenly begin to rot.
The Kenneth family, deeply concerned, linked her condition to the attack in the parking garage. They reviewed the surveillance footage from that day. But to their dismay, the footage had been deliberately destroyed before the incident. Even the stick used in the attack only had Ameliaโs fingerprints, with no evidence pointing to the assailant.
The trail seemed to end there, but Liliana knew better than anyone else. The person who attacked me that day was Olivia!
Watching another piece of her decayed flesh fall off, Lilianaโs hatred for Olivia burned hotter than ever. She clenched her fists, her fury threatening to consume her. She couldnโt let the Kenneth family find out it was Olivia, nor could she allow them to learn about Oliviaโs existence. But revenge, I vowed to have it!
Her eyes filled with malice, Liliana reached for the phone beside her bed and made a call. Later that afternoon, Olivia was invited to the police station on suspicion of assault.
A sharply dressed lawyer with gold-rimmed glasses stood in the station, looking down at Olivia as she sat calmly in her chair. His tone was cold and accusatory.
โMs. Carter,โ he began, โwhere were you around 10 a.m. three days ago?โ
Olivia raised an eyebrow at him.
โAnd who are you exactly? What obligation do I have to answer your questions?โ
The lawyer frowned. โMs. Carter, weโve reviewed the surveillance footage from Starlit Entertainment. It shows you entering the building around 10 a.m. three days ago. During that time, Starlit Entertainmentโs chairman, Ms. Liliana, was assaulted in the parking garage. We have reason to believe that you are the assailant who attacked her.โ
