Chapter 62: She Got Nerves of Steel
โLet you go, so you can regroup and come back for revenge?โ Lucas teased from the front passenger seat.
Jack shook his head like a bobblehead. โNo, I wouldnโt dare! This was my fault, I admit it. I swear, if you let me go, I wonโt seek revenge.โ
โYeah, like Iโd believe that,โ Lucas rolled his eyes.
Jack turned to Olivia with a pleading look.
Oliviaโs lips curved into a smile. โIโll be waiting for your revenge.โ
Before Jack could look relieved, Olivia opened the car door and kicked him out of the speeding vehicle with one swift motion! Jack tumbled out, rolling over and over across the ground, ending up bruised and battered.
Lucas broke out in a cold sweat as he stared at Oliviaโs bold move. โGeez, if Jack doesnโt die, heโs barely hanging on. You really donโt hold back, huh?โ
Olivia calmly tossed the broken bottle out of the car, pulled a packet of tissues from her bag, and began wiping the blood off her hands.
Lucas swallowed nervously. โJackโs a petty guy. After what you did, heโs definitely going to come after you. Youโd better watch your back.โ
โIt doesnโt matter,โ Olivia said with a calm smile, finishing cleaning her hands. โIโm looking forward to him trying.โ
Lucas gawked at her, completely thrown off by her nonchalant tone. โYouโre looking forward to it?โ Olivia raised her eyes, a mischievous glint in her gaze. โWe live in a society governed by laws. Murder is illegal, but if itโs self-defense and ends in accidental death, itโs just excessive defense.โ
A shiver ran down Lucasโ spine. Is she a devil?
โBut still,โ Lucas stammered, โas bad as he isโฆ he doesnโt deserve to die, does he?โ
Olivia propped her chin on her hand and looked out the window at the scenery. โThree years ago, he killed a girl.โ
Lucas froze, caught off guard. โWhat?โ
โHe saw her at his bar, drugged her, assaulted her, then dumped her body in a river. His familyโs wealth silenced her poor family with a payout, and that was the end of it,โ Olivia said evenly. If she hadnโt escaped in her previous life, she wouldโve met the same fate. Jack had told her so himself.
โHeโs handed out illegal drugs to minors in his bar and destroyed countless lives. Do you still think he doesnโt deserve to die?โ Olivia asked, her gaze sharp as she looked at Lucas.
Lucas fell silent.
Benjamin, who had remained quiet until now, suddenly spoke. โEven if he died a thousand times, it wouldnโt be enough.โ
Olivia smiled faintly. Yes, someone like Jack could never atone for what heโd done.
Benjamin paused before adding, โIโll handle the rest. He wonโt trouble you anymore.โ
Olivia raised her eyebrows slightly.
Lucas, sensing the tense atmosphere, tried to lighten the mood. โOh, Olivia, should we take you home now?โ
โYou helped me find Jack, so Iโll join you for your race,โ Olivia said casually.
Lucas blinked in surprise. โAre you serious?โ
โI keep my word,โ Olivia replied.
Lucasโ expression turned complicated. After everything that just went down, sheโs cool enough to talk about racing? This girlโs got nerves of steel.
Benjaminโs lips curved into a faint smile. Olivia is truly an intriguing girl.
โWhereโs the race?โ Olivia asked offhandedly.
โMt. Hevana,โ Benjamin answered.
Olivia froze for a moment. โMt. Hevana?โ
