Chapter 63: I Am Here to Save You
โYeah, Mt. Hevana. We go there all the time. Have you raced there before?โ Lucas asked with a cheeky grin.
Oliviaโs brows furrowed slightly. She had never been to Mt. Hevana herself, but in her past life, she had come across a news story about it. The article reported a group of street racers causing an accident at Mt. Hevana. When the police arrived, they found drugs in one of the cars involved. The scandal caused a major uproar, and the driver was arrested. It later came to light that he was the heir to a prominent corporation, and the incident cost him his inheritance. Years down the line, an investigation proved the man had been framed, but by then, the damage had already been done. His reputation was ruined, and he had faded into obscurity.
The timing of that accident was tonight. Although the name of the person arrested had been redacted in the report, Olivia distinctly remembered his family name was Moore.
โAre you your familyโs heir?โ Olivia suddenly asked Benjamin.
Benjamin paused, slightly taken aback, but answered instinctively, โYes.โ
Oliviaโs mind whirred. So, Benjamin was the unlucky scapegoat from her past life? She glanced at the confident young man in front of her, who, by this time tomorrow, would fall from a position of privilege to become a pariah. Her brows furrowed again. This wasnโt her problem to solve. But Lucas and Benjamin had helped her in two fights today.
โAre you racing with this car tonight?โ Olivia asked.
Benjamin nodded.
Lucas, catching her interest in the vehicle, smirked knowingly. โOlivia, this car is Mr. Benjaminโs pride and joy,โ he teased. โActually, Mr. Benjamin, didnโt you borrow this to your brother? I thought he wasnโt returning it until a few days from now.โ
โHe gave it back this morning,โ Benjamin replied casually.
While they chatted, Oliviaโs mind connected dots from the news story. She reached into the gap between the backseat cushions. Her fingers brushed against something. It was a small paper packet. Without drawing attention, she slipped the packet out and unfolded it. Inside were several suspicious pills. She recognized them immediately from anti-drug posters she had seen in her previous life.
If Benjamin had been framed, and based on Lucasโs comment, Benjamin rarely let anyone use his car. In the past six months, the only person who had driven it was his brother. A theory crystallized in Oliviaโs mind.
Benjamin, puzzled by her line of questioning, thought for a moment. โMy brother, Benedict Moore.โ
Her suspicions clicked into place.
Lucas glanced at Olivia, grinning slyly. โOlivia, youโre awfully curious about Mr. Benjaminโs family. Donโt tell me youโve got a little crush on him?โ
Benjaminโs grip on the steering wheel tightened.
Olivia gave Lucas a long-suffering look. โDo you know why youโre so bad at video games?โ she asked.
Lucas blinked. โWhy?โ
โBecause youโre dumb,โ she replied, arching a brow.
Lucas opened his mouth to argue but quickly closed it. He couldnโt win a fight with her, verbally or otherwise.
By the time the car pulled up to Mt. Hevana, the sky had gone completely dark. Despite its remote location, Mt. Hevana was buzzing with life. Dozens of sports cars were parked at the base of the mountain, and clusters of teenagers and young adults filled the area, laughing and shouting as the excitement built.
