Chapter 92: Iโm Not Close to Her
Hudson and Lucas had no idea what had just happened. When they arrived, they saw Sophia teary-eyed, looking pitifully at Olivia.
โWhatโs going on?โ asked Lucas, puzzled.
Sophia, with tears glistening in her eyes, lowered her head, looking immensely wronged. โI donโt know either. It seems Livi doesnโt want me interacting with you twoโฆโ
Lucas paused, momentarily confused, while a trace of amusement flickered in Hudsonโs eyes.
โOlivia, youโre overthinking this,โ Hudson began calmly.
Sophia looked up at Hudson, her tear-streaked face resembling a fragile flowerโa sight many boys found irresistible. Surely, no man could resist her. Whenever she played the victim, men would rush to comfort her.
But then Hudson added, โI donโt even know this classmate. Why would I be interacting with her?โ
His words left Sophiaโs carefully crafted look of sorrow frozen in place.
Lucas scratched his head. โI donโt really know her, eitherโฆโ
Sophia was surprised by the result of her actions. Wait a minute! Why isnโt this going as I had imagined? Shouldnโt they be chastising Olivia for being petty and then comforting me?
Sophia was utterly unprepared for her charms to fail so completely today.
Leaning lazily against the wall, Olivia glanced at Sophia, who now resembled a clown. Without lifting a finger, Sophia had already embarrassed herself beyond repair.
Bored with Sophiaโs poor acting, Olivia proceeded to invest the money she won last nightโabout ten thousand dollarsโinto the same stock she had purchased previously.
Just then, a few young men entered the brokerage firm. Seeing Olivia confidently buy shares in a stock that was plummeting, they looked incredulous.
โSeriously? Someoneโs buying this trash stock?โ
โGirl, are you burning money for fun? This stockโs about to hit rock bottom, and youโre investing in it?โ
As they joked, one of them spotted Lucas nearby.
โHey, Mr. Thompson, youโre here too?โ
Lucas vaguely acknowledged them with a nod. He had no clue about stocks, but from the way these guys were talking, it sounded like Olivia had made a terrible choice.
โMy friend bought this stock. Is there an issue with it?โ he asked.
One of the young men laughed. โIssue? Itโs a sinking ship! The companyโs about to go bankrupt.โ
Lucas looked at the stock chart. The price had indeed been dropping, though there was a slight recentโฆ
The young man shook his head. โImpossible! Just some irrational diehard fans of the company pooling money to save their so-called memories. But look, this stock is beyond saving.โ
โBuying it now is throwing money into a black hole. If this stock rises, Iโll eat my shirt standing on my head!โ
โBetter talk some sense into your friend. Tossing money into a river at least makes a splash. This? A total disaster.โ
โHow can a bunch of nobodies fight capitalists?โ
Hearing this, Lucas was taken aback, and even Hudson frowned slightly.
โOlivia, maybe you should think twice about this?โ Lucas suggested, knowing the young men had insider knowledge and were unlikely to be wrong about the stockโs dire prospects.
