Chapter 33
Valerie pulled Easton aside, her eyes narrowed in warning. โWhatโs the deal, Easton?โ
Lambertโs voice was a low, threatening rumble. โEaston, if you mess with my granddaughterโs date, youโre messing with me. Iโve cleared out this place just for her to have a quiet, uninterrupted meal. Sheโs happy now, not like when she was with you. Back then, all you did was spread rumors and hurt her. This guy here is my top pick for her. If you interfere, Iโll expose Jenniferโs actions, and sheโll be the one in jail.โ
Easton frowned at the old man in the simple gray suit, whose eyes were sharp, deep, and anything but ordinary. โSir, I must ask you to stop slandering Jennifer. If you donโt, Iโll be forced to send you a legal notice,โ Easton said, his tone serious.
Lambert just laughed it off. โIโm not scared of your threats. Youโre not welcome here. Hit the road!โ
Valerie tugged Easton aside before he could reply. โStay out of sight. We canโt ruin Natalieโs mood,โ she urged quietly.
All Valerie hoped for was Natalieโs happiness and a bright future with a new love. From what sheโd divined for Natalie, Easton was now a part of her past.
Meeting Valerieโs glare, Easton bit back the words heโd been about to say. He and Natalie were still legally married, and the thought of her on a date was more than he could bear.
Meanwhile, Natalie was making her pitch to Maurice. โMr. Chambers, if youโre looking for partners in your business ventures in Shagrity, consider me. Iโm a fashion designer, speak five languages, and can translate. Iโve heard youโre into antiquesโI can restore them, and I even have some medical skills.โ She was eager to impress him, knowing he was destined to be a major player.
Maurice looked at her, surprised. Her sparkling eyes and captivating smile made her the most beautiful woman heโd ever seen. He sipped water to mask his admiration and said, โI knew you were special from your grandfather, but your talent exceeded my expectations.โ
Natalie blushed slightly. โMr. Chambers, how about we see each other as potential business partners or friends instead of romantic interests? Iโve recently divorced and my focus is on my career.โ She grinned playfully, her eyes sparkling.
While she found him attractive, she was more intrigued by his connections than a personal relationship.
Maurice was taken aback but found himself quite fond of her. โI donโt mind your past,โ he said, surprising her.
Natalie was confused by Mauriceโs indifference to her divorce, but her main interest was in his wealth.
โMr. Chambers, someone of your stature deserves better,โ she remarked, giving him her business card. โIf thereโs any chance for us to collaborate, feel free to reach out. Thanks.โ
Maurice grinned as he accepted the lavender business card, which bore only Natalieโs name and phone number. โOf course,โ he agreed gracefully.
They hit it off, and throughout their meal, they had a delightful conversation.
After dinner, Maurice had to leave early. He had just returned to the country and had many things to attend to. They agreed to meet the next day.
After Maurice departed, Natalie went outside and discovered her grandfather waiting there. She couldnโt suppress a roll of her eyes, realizing heโd been watching over her blind date the entire time.
Lambert asked excitedly. โNatalie, I wasnโt lying to you, was I? Heโs a really good man.โ
Natalie saw the pride on her grandfatherโs face and smiled back nodding, โGrandpa, your judgment never fails. We had a great conversation.โ It wasnโt hard to see why; Maurice was clearly on his way to becoming a major player.
Lambert seized the moment. โDo you like
