Chapter 48
Hearing about this made Natalie feel sick. โMr. Chambers, Easton and I signed the divorce agreement months ago; we just havenโt gone through the final procedures yet.โ
However, she had plans. Since Easton cheated with Jennifer, she could file for divorce unilaterally.
Mauriceโs gaze grew even more intense when he learned that the final steps hadnโt been completed. โNatalie, if you need any assistance, just let me know. The lawyers at our firm are excellent.โ
โNo need. I left with nothing, and as long as Easton agrees to go to the courthouse and get the divorce certificate, itโll be straightforward,โ she said.
If Maurice got involved, things would become complicated. Simple matters should be handled simply.
โAlright, but if you need anything, donโt hesitate to reach out. And thank you again for tonight!โ Maurice said.
Natalie wanted him to owe her a favor. โMr. Chambers, youโre too kind. Weโre friends; helping each other is the least we can do.โ
Her smile was as sweet as honey, feeling as though she had a strong ally now.
Only then did Maurice lower his head and eat elegantly.
After dinner, Natalie declined Mauriceโs offer to drive her home. She contacted Luna and went to the roadside to wait for her.
It was only ten oโclock, and there were still plenty of people out on the streets.
Natalie lifted her lips in a bright, radiant smile, feeling that the night was beautiful.
She wondered why she had been so foolish in the past, shutting herself away in a luxurious villa and waiting for a man who would never change his mind.
The person who foolishly craves love from someone who doesnโt love them is truly the most naive.
โNatalie.โ A low, husky voice sounded in her ear.
Startled, Natalie turned and looked over, recognizing the voice immediately. It was Easton.
He stood not far away, with the brightly lit buildings behind him reflecting off his handsome face, making him appear almost otherworldly. His tall, athletic figure exuded a sense of power and intimidation.
Natalie raised an eyebrow, looking at him, thinking he was like a ghost that kept haunting her.
โNatalie, come home with me. Weโre not divorced yet,โ Easton said, walking directly up to Natalie. โAnd how could you get cozy with another man while weโre still married? Are you trying to cheat on me?โ
Hearing his accusation, Natalie let out a bitter laugh.
She looked at him, a wave of sadness washing over her. โEaston, how can you even say that? If youโd chosen Jennifer, why did you marry me in the first place? If youโd told me from the beginning that you loved Jennifer, I wouldโve rejected you without a second thought.โ
โBut you married me and then took me for granted. It took me a long time to realize you only did it because Grandpa Vernon forced you. You needed to marry me to secure your inheritance,โ she smiled bitterly.
โGrandpa Vernon only wanted the best for you, hoping to give you a home, which is why he pushed you to marry and settle.โ Natalie continued, โBut even so, you had no right to treat me like a plaything.โ
โWhen the Simpsons bullied me, you sided with them, despised me, and even brought up divorce over and over again. I signed the papers already. What more do you want?โ she asked. โAnd what about you? You parade around with Jennifer, but you donโt call that cheating?โ
Easton looked at her deeply, silent, as if struggling to hold something back.
Natalie smiled sadly. โEaston, did you know? You and the Simpson family are all the sameโcruel, heartless. Jennifer has done countless filthy things, yet you all twist the truth, turning it back on me.โ
โDo you think I didnโt fight back because it didnโt hurt? No, it hurt every time,โ she kept going on. โMy own parents, my brother, my husbandโall of you hurt me, oppressed me, humiliated me for that womanโs sake. Every time, it broke me a little more.โ
โSo, Easton, whether you divorce me or not, I will never love you again,โ Natalie said firmly. โIf you want to keep Jennifer as your beloved mistress, then by all means, hold onto that twisted dream.โ
