Chapter 48
“I’ve never seen anyone as shameless as you! Let me tell you, I’m not quitting the industry, and I won’t let this slide. I’ll gather evidence of the posts on my account and sue you for defamation!”
“Go ahead, sue me! But look at your situation. You owe ten billion in contract termination fees. Besides, you’ve offended the Farrell family and Ms. Smith. Who’s going to stand by you? Mr. Farrell has already abandoned you! All your resources are frozen, and no one will dare to work with you as long as you don’t pay the termination fee. Daphne, do you truly think you can survive in this industry without me or the Farrell family? Dream on!”
“Hugo, you’re nothing but a lapdog who relies on the Farrell family’s favor to throw your weight around! What are you even worth without me bringing money to the company? Don’t bark at me! I can’t wait to see your downfall.”
Daphne hung up without waiting for a reply.
She prided herself on being emotionally stable. However, since her rebirth, she had witnessed such shamelessness and cruelty that she sometimes felt on the verge of a heart attack from sheer rage. She slapped her flushed face lightly before calling Ava. “Ava, can you help me arrange a meeting with Mr. Anderson as soon as possible?”
“Mr. Anderson? Which one?”
“Who else? Mr. Anderson from Starstruck Entertainment.”
“What do you need with him?”
“It’s important. Just set up the meeting.”
Ava, efficient as always, called back shortly after. “It’s set for 3:00 p.m. at the cafe we used to frequent. I’ll pick you up at 2:15 p.m.”
Billy Anderson was the general manager of Starstruck Entertainment and its second-largest shareholder. He and Hugo had a long-standing conflict due to their differing management styles and principles. Their feud was well-known throughout the company. The company’s annual profits had been exceptional when Daphne was at Starstruck Entertainment, and Billy had endured Hugo’s antics for years because his shareholding was smaller. Billy, relatively upright compared to the power-hungry and oppressive Hugo, was key to successfully terminating her contract.
After the meeting was arranged, Daphne began to get ready. Noticing she still had time, she was about to order delivery when the doorbell rang. She looked through the peephole, saw the delivery man from her favorite restaurant, and asked him to leave the food by the door. After he left, she retrieved it.
She wondered who had sent the food when Sebastian’s voice message arrived. “I ordered a meal for you. It’s all your favorites. You’re welcome. Enjoy the meal, Ms. Yeager.”
“How do you even know what food I like?” Daphne was puzzled. Sebastian always seemed to know her preferences perfectly.
“Don’t trouble yourself with that. Just enjoy the meal and leave the rest to me. Don’t worry; things will turn around.”
Her foul mood lightened, and a rare sense of comfort settled over her. She found all her favorite dishes in the container. She snapped a photo and sent it to Sebastian, along with a gratitude sticker.
