Chapter 49
Ava arrived punctually to pick up Daphne at the agreed-upon time. Daphne wore a custom fall ensemble from Dreamfit: a white V-neck blouse, a black fitted skirt, and dark red velvet heels. Her hair was loosely pinned up, giving her an elegant yet sharp appearance.
They arrived at the café ten minutes early. Daphne chose the innermost private room and ordered her favorite floral tea while Ava prepared it. Billy arrived on time shortly afterward.
The two exchanged polite handshakes and took their seats. Daphne and Billy had worked at the same company, so excessive small talk was unnecessary.
Billy got straight to the point. “Ms. Yeager, I assume this meeting concerns your contract termination. But while I’d like to help, this isn't something I can decide on my own.”
His expression reflected a blend of regret and shrewdness typical of businessmen.
Daphne smiled, unfazed. “I’m aware of your position, Mr. Anderson. That’s why I wouldn’t waste your time with problems you can’t solve.”
Billy was confused. “Honestly, we didn’t interact much when you were at Starstruck Entertainment. Hugo handled most of your affairs; I can’t imagine why you’d contact me now.”
Daphne lowered her gaze, inhaled the tea's fragrance, and took a sip before responding with a light smile. “Frankly, I’m here to discuss a potential collaboration.”
“Collaboration?” Billy looked incredulous, almost amused. “I’m not looking down on you, Ms. Yeager. But you have an astronomical termination fee, and the Farrell family clearly isn’t supporting you. Given your current situation, what leverage do you have to propose a collaboration?”
Daphne reached into her bag and produced several documents titled “Starstruck Entertainment Share Transfer Agreement.”
“Take a look at this. Do you think this is sufficient for a collaboration?” she asked, with a confident and alluring smile.
Years ago, Hugo had persuaded Daphne to renew her contract by promising her 10% of Starstruck Entertainment’s shares. She had secretly been purchasing scattered shares under different names since deciding to terminate her contract. Hugo remained unaware of this maneuver. She now held approximately 12.3% of the shares. Daphne had decided to sell these shares to Billy, Hugo’s rival, if he made her life difficult. Billy’s shares were only 9% less than Hugo’s; adding Daphne's would make him the largest shareholder, easily unseating Hugo as chairman.
Billy picked up the agreement and examined it carefully. He finally understood her confidence. His eyes gleamed with surprise as he set the document down. “What a surprise, Ms. Yeager. How exactly do you envision this collaboration?”
“I’m willing to sell you all my shares, giving you majority control of Starstruck Entertainment. In return, I only ask for an amicable separation from the company—a smooth and fair termination of my contract. Mr. Anderson, I trust you’ll grant me this favor.” She looked at him calmly, a faint smile playing on her lips.
Billy didn’t answer immediately. He leisurely lifted his cup and took a slow sip. The tea was excellent—refreshing, smooth, with a sweet aftertaste.
Daphne remained silent, watching him with quiet confidence. She was certain the deal would succeed; it was now a matter of patience.
After a long silence, Billy finally set down his cup.
