Chapter 86
Wilson intended to divorce his wife and marry Yvonne, a move that would bring shame upon the Farrells. Leena, however, would not allow it. She thwarted his plans.
Wilson’s phone rang incessantly; it was Daphne, urging him to go to the courthouse. Seeing him about to answer, Leena snatched the phone.
“Don’t answer it, and don’t even think about going! Stay with me today. If you dare to step away from me, I’ll jump out the window!” Leena yelled, pointing at the window.
Wilson was confused and frustrated. “What are you doing, Mom? Don’t you hate Daphne too? You’ve never liked her throughout our marriage. Now that she’s finally agreed to a divorce, why are you changing your mind?”
“When I told you not to marry her, you refused to listen. Did she really think the Farrells cared about her pathetic wedding gifts? Every woman I introduced to you was wealthy, but you pampered Daphne as if she were the only woman in the world. You even fought me and your father because of her, saying you’d marry no one else. When I criticized her, you always defended her; you even almost knelt for her! After everything, I don’t understand why you’re getting a divorce now.”
Wilson’s head ached. He frowned, rubbing his nose bridge. “Why bring up the past? I was young and foolish. I thought she was my soulmate. Now I see the truth, and I’m choosing someone better. Can’t I regret my choices?”
“Someone better? That vixen from last time? Haven’t you had enough fun yet?”
“Mom, please don’t talk about Yvonne like that. She’s kind and innocent.”
Leena raged at Wilson’s praise of Yvonne.
“As long as I live, you’ll forget about marrying her! Daphne is my only daughter-in-law, and you’re not leaving today. Stay here until the courthouse closes!”
“Can you stop being unreasonable, Mom?” Wilson stood, frustrated, reaching for his phone. “Give me my phone. If there’s nothing else, I’m leaving.”
“Don’t you dare! Step out of this ward, and you’ll have no mother!”
Leena, having traveled the world and met people from all walks of life, instantly saw through Yvonne’s facade. Hearing Wilson praise Yvonne, she rolled her eyes.
While Daphne didn’t come from a great family, she had a wonderful personality. Given a choice, Leena would choose Daphne as her daughter-in-law. She never thought she’d side with Daphne, but a recent slap had apparently opened her eyes.
Knowing Leena would keep her word, Wilson kicked the ward door.
“Mom! You might stop me this time, but will it work again? What’s the point? I’ll get a divorce eventually.”
“I don’t care. You’re staying here today!”
Leena confined Wilson to the ward all day, confiscating his phone. She knew she couldn’t stop him forever, but she bought time, hoping he’d reconsider Yvonne within the month.
Wilson was finally released around 9:00 pm. Returning to his villa, he collapsed onto the couch. His phone buzzed with missed calls from Daphne, but he ignored them.
Belinda Fyrr, the maid, who had always treated Daphne well, intervened. “Mr. Farrell… Is Ms. Smith really that great? I think you should give Mrs. Farrell another chance.” She knew how close Wilson and Daphne once were and lamented their current situation.
Wilson’s face darkened. He glared at Belinda. “I don’t love her anymore, so why should I give her another chance? Yvonne is a wonderful person. Don’t say such stupid things again unless you want to join Daphne.”
