Chapter 85
Wilson’s face turned pale after hearing Julie’s words. He had always been a good son, and Leena had almost lost her life during a severe illness. Since then, he had always been extremely cautious about her well-being.
He withdrew his hand and told the driver, “Go to Farrell Hospital now.”
The driver, Adrian Snow, sped off, and Wilson soon saw Leena lying in her hospital bed. She looked healthy and strong. Seeing Wilson, she exclaimed joyfully, “Well, you sure came fast, Willy!”
Wilson looked at her with a worried and confused expression. “What happened, Mom? I came as fast as I could after Julie…”
“Where were you?” Leena asked.
He hesitated before saying, “The courthouse.”
“I knew it!” Leena sat up, looking anxious. “So, have you collected the divorce certificate?”
Having run to her ward, Wilson was sweating profusely. He unbuttoned his collar to cool down. “I didn’t have the chance. Julie called me right away.”
“Oh, thank goodness!” Leena clasped her hands, breathing a sigh of relief.
People could be strange. Leena had intensely disliked Daphne in the past. If Daphne hadn’t already been somewhat popular, Leena never would have agreed to their marriage because of Daphne’s humble background.
However, now that Daphne and Wilson were divorcing, Leena suddenly realized how admirable Daphne was. She remembered Daphne’s thriftiness; she didn’t buy designer brands like other actresses. Daphne worked hard on many shows to support her family, improving their lives. She even prepared tens of millions of dollars worth of gifts for her wedding to Wilson, hoping to impress the Farrells. That’s why Leena had ultimately accepted her.
After Wilson married Daphne, Leena had been constantly dissatisfied, nitpicking at everything Daphne did. Daphne always endured it.
At the time, Leena didn’t think it was a big deal. After all, a daughter-in-law should respect her mother-in-law, and Leena believed Daphne had only herself to blame for marrying into a wealthy family. Leena also felt Daphne deserved any punishment she inflicted, since Daphne had “taken” her beloved Wilson.
However, everything changed with Yvonne’s arrival. Wilson was willing to defy his beliefs and risk his reputation for her; he was even willing to abandon the wife he had deeply loved.
Rather than allow Yvonne into the Farrell family, Leena would rather have Daphne stay.
That morning, Leena had casually remarked, “I wonder what Willy’s been up to lately. He hasn’t come home for dinner in a while.”
Then Julie said, “From what I heard from Jackie, it seems Mr. Farrell is getting his divorce certificate with Daphne today.”
Leena was stunned. “What?”
Her body was still recovering from surgery, and she couldn’t be agitated. The news left her dizzy; she fell back onto her seat, panting heavily. Julie was terrified.
Julie said, “I’ll call Willy and tell him you’ve fainted and…”
Leena, needing a check-up, told Julie, “Get the driver to send me to the hospital now. I’m about to die! Tell him to come visit me immediately!”
