Upon seeing Janessa, Jillian’s face immediately turned cold. After all, she had seen the comments on the forum about how Janessa had been behind all the schemes to set her up. So, at this moment, Jillian naturally couldn’t bring herself to feel happy.

Madelyn knew Jillian had to be feeling upset, so she quietly reached out to gently pat the latter’s back, wordlessly soothing her. Jillian felt a bit better at the action.

Then, Madelyn glanced at Janessa and asked nonchalantly, “Why did you rush to catch up to us? Is there a problem?"

As she spoke these words, her face had an aggrieved expression, as if she had been wrongly accused of something.

Madelyn looked on, finding it amusing. “What are you talking about? What reason would I have to be mad at you?”

Upon hearing this, Janessa instinctively averted her gaze toward Jillian. In her mind, she was yelling, “If you aren’t mad, then why are you so close with Jillian!” The incident on the forum had clearly caused quite a stir, so everyone was well aware of the feud between her and Jillian. Yet, Madelyn was being surprisingly close with Jillian. Could it be that you want everyone to know you’re on her side?

On the surface, however, Janessa simply wore a pitiful expression. “If you’re not angry, then why have you been ignoring me lately?” With sorrow in her voice, she lowered her head and asked, “Do you also believe what they say about me? Is that why you’re distancing yourself from me?”

Immediately, Madelyn questioned in her heart, “Are you not the type of person they say you are?” However, on the surface, she seemed indifferent as she said, “Regardless, the forum is currently filled with negative comments about you. You’ve made so many mistakes, and now so many people are criticizing you. If I were to associate myself closely with you, wouldn’t I just be inviting trouble? Or are you trying to drag me into the mud with you and be at the receiving end of criticism?”

Upon hearing these words, Janessa immediately shook her head anxiously. “Madelyn, you know that’s not what I meant.”

Madelyn sneered mentally, but she still nodded calmly. “All right, stop overthinking. I’ve just been really busy lately, and that’s why I haven’t had much time to contact you.”

Busy?

Janessa couldn’t help but ask, “What are you busy with? What could she, a lady of leisure with no particular skills, possibly be busy with? Could it be that she was busy spending time with Sebastian?”

It was infuriating! The mere thought of it sparked immediate anger in Janessa’s heart. In her heart, she warned Madelyn, “You better watch yourself, or else I won’t let you off easily!”

“Do you really want to know what I’ve been busy with?” Madelyn asked with a chuckle at that moment.

Janessa immediately nodded enthusiastically. “Of course, I want to know. We are the best of friends, after all. I’m interested in everything you do.”

Madelyn scoffed internally, “You probably just want to watch my every move, don’t you? Well, it doesn’t matter since I’m innocent and have nothing to fear. Since you want to know that badly, there’s no harm in telling you."

“If you’re so curious, you can come along. I’ll take you with me so you can see what I’m up to.”

Upon hearing these words, a wave of elation washed over Janessa. “Sure!”

Following that, Madelyn turned to Jillian and said, “You should go home first. I’ll head over later.”

“But…”

Jillian was somewhat hesitant, casting a suspicious glance at Janessa as if she was terrified the latter would stir up trouble. Madelyn had no choice but to give her a comforting glance. The meaning behind her look was clear, “Don’t worry about me. I’m fine.”

Out of trust for Madelyn, Jillian had no choice but to give a slight nod before turning around and leaving. As she walked away, she kept glancing back, seemingly a bit uneasy. Madelyn once again bestowed upon her a comforting smile.

Janessa watched all this happen, which left her feeling extremely displeased. Unable to hold back; she complained, “Madelyn, didn’t I tell you to keep your distance from her? But why do I feel like your relationship with her is only getting better and better?”

Janessa’s guess was correct. Indeed Madelyn’s relationship with Jillian was getting better and better.

But how could Madelyn possibly tell her the truth? Thus, she casually responded, “No, you’re overthinking it. I was just discussing some academic issues with her. You know I still need a lot of credit hours. If I don’t earn enough, I won’t be able to graduate.”

After speaking, she asked in return, “Why, you don’t like it?”

Caught in an awkward moment, Janessa hesitated for a bit before quickly breaking into a smile. “How could that be? Since Jillian is your friend, then she’s my friend as well.”

“Is that so?” Madelyn chuckled.

“Of course! I didn’t even get a chance to explain earlier. Regarding that post on the forum and the incident where Ivan ordered those boys to bully Jillian, I honestly had no idea about any of it. Madelyn, they’ve all wronged me. You must believe me!”

The words spoken by Janessa sounded incredibly sincere as she drew a clear line between her and those incidents. Madelyn arched an eyebrow and let out a silent scoff.

However, she said with a profound understanding, “Don’t worry, I know it wasn’t you. After all, we’ve known each other for so many years. Don’t you think I know what kind of person you are? The kind of person who could do such a despicable thing must have a truly wicked heart, don’t you think?”

The last sentence was deliberate as Madelyn cast an intent glance at Janessa.

Upon hearing this, Janessa’s heart skipped a beat, but she still found herself exhaling in relief. “Madelyn, you’re truly wonderful. In times like these, you’re the only one still willing to believe in me.”

Madelyn nodded before saying, “However, if there’s a next time and you truly wish to apologize in person, I could help arrange that for you.”

“Really? That’s absolutely wonderful!” Janessa said with delight.

She thought to herself, "Madelyn is, as always, so foolishly gullible!"

Following that, Madelyn spoke. “Right, didn’t you want to see what I’m up to? Let’s get going then.”

Janessa nodded emphatically, in complete agreement.

Just then, Christopher seemed to appear out of nowhere. “Hey, what brings you two here?”

Madelyn immediately furrowed her brow in frustration, as if she were looking at a fool. This coincidence is just too contrived, isn’t it? Do they think I’m a fool? Their act is completely transparent at first glance.

Yet, Janessa was still cheerfully performing. “Christopher, your timing is impeccable! Madelyn was just about to take me somewhere. Would you like to join us?”

Naturally, Christopher nodded. “Sure, it’s not like I have anything else to do. Let’s go then.”

Observing the effort the two were putting into their acting, Madelyn didn’t really mind. However, a hint of a mischievous smile played at the corners of her mouth.
