Eborn to My Engagement Night
Chapter 107: A Profound Sense of Despair
Unexpectedly, Madelyn actually led them into a combat training center.
As soon as they walked through the door, the receptionist greeted them warmly, โAre you here to get a gym membership? Or perhaps youโre interested in learning martial arts? Or maybe dance is more your style? We offer a wide range of classes here, from belly dancing to ballroom dancing and pole dancing.โ
The color immediately drained from their faces as they wondered what Madelyn was up to.
Madelyn couldnโt help but chuckle to herself before she said, โThese two are my friends. Theyโve come for a visit.โ
The receptionist, of course, recognized Madelyn. Back then, her bold and assertive style was something the receptionist could still vividly recall. Since they were just visitors, it really wasnโt any of her business.
โMadelyn, why did you bring us here?โ Janessa asked, her voice filled with confusion.
Christopher followed along, appearing completely clueless.
โYou guys wanted to know what Iโve been up to lately, didnโt you? Well, I wonโt keep it a secret. Iโve been learning martial arts here,โ Madelyn said nonchalantly.
The two were instantly taken aback.
What on earth is she thinking? Martial arts? Has she lost her mind?
Madelyn chuckled lightly and then led them straight into the kickboxing class. At that time, all the students had already changed into their training outfits and were warming up. People were everywhere, each engrossed in their own activities. Some were kicking their legs, others were bending their waists, and some were practicing their punches.
Without any delay, Madelyn said, โWait here for me for a moment.โ
After speaking, she went to the changing room to switch her attire. Shortly after, she emerged, now donned in an all-white outfit. At that moment, Skylar blew the whistle. Immediately, everyone gathered in the center, and their attendance was taken. Once everyone had arrived, Skylar began teaching them new moves.
Madelyn didnโt bother with Janessa and Christopher. She simply went off to train on her own. Janessa and Christopher were standing by, their eyes wide in astonishment.
No wonder I havenโt seen her lately. Turns out sheโs been here learning martial arts!
After training for a while, Madelyn felt that it was about enough. She had thought that those two, feeling bored, would have surely left by now. But upon looking over, she saw Janessa and Christopher sitting not too far away on the ground, each holding a bag of potato chips, watching her with boredom.
โChristopher, I think if you manage to win her over, you might get beaten up in the future,โ Janessa said, munching on a potato chip.
Christopher scoffed dismissively, โShe thinks she can beard a lion in its den after learning a few tricks? Not a chance.โ
At that moment, Madelynโs lips curled up into a smirk.
Since theyโre here, I canโt just let their visit be in vain, can I?
She walked toward the two of them and asked with a smile, โYou two seem bored here. How about giving it a try?โ
Janessa immediately shook her head. โMadelyn, I think Iโll pass.โ
Christopher also wore an expression of disdain. โWhatโs so great about this?โ
Madelyn snorted coldly, goading him on purpose. โChristopher, are you just too scared? Are you worried you canโt beat me and youโll end up embarrassed?โ
โWho said Iโm scared?โ Christopher abruptly stood up. โTell me where the changing room is. Iโll go right now!โ
โWhatโs the rush? Janessa hasnโt agreed yet.โ Madelyn rolled her eyes, then flashed a smile, turning her attention to Janessa. โJanessa, Iโm only looking out for you. Youโre so attractive. There must be many who harbor ill intentions toward you. Wouldnโt it be great if you learned some self-defense moves? It could protect you, right?โ
Janessa seemed hesitant. โMadelyn, I donโt want to goโฆโ
Upon seeing her fidgeting, Christopher immediately became somewhat impatient. He urged from the side, โJanessa, why are you so hesitant? Hurry up! Madelyn is doing this for your own good. Come on, go change your clothes.โ
After saying that, he took Janessaโs hand and left. Janessa couldnโt resist. She had no choice but to join him.
As soon as they left, Janessa forcefully shook off Christopherโs hand.
โChristopher, what are you doing? If you want to learn, go ahead. Donโt drag me along. I donโt want to end up all sweaty and smelly!โ Janessa expressed her feelings in a disheartened tone.
โAre you genuinely naive or just pretending to be?โ Christopher suddenly looked at her with a hint of irritation. โArenโt we supposed to test her? Naturally, we need to understand her! If we donโt give it a try and just observe from the sidelines, what can we possibly discern?โ
Christopherโs words made sense. Janessa was initially reluctant. However, upon hearing his words, she suddenly felt that there seemed to be some truth to them. She nodded and the two of them went to change their clothes.
At that moment, observing the two figures from a distance, Madelyn let out a somber chuckle.
You chose to follow me, so donโt blame me for what happens next.
โCoach Campbell, may I ask a favor of you?โ Madelyn moved closer to Skylar, her voice dripping with sweetness.
Skylar had always been quite fond of Madelyn, so naturally, he agreed. Madelyn leaned in close to his ear, whispering a few hushed words. After listening to what Madelyn had to say, Skylar patted his chest with a beaming smile. โAll right, Iโll definitely help you out!โ
โThanks a lot, Coach Campbell,โ Madelyn said, her smile incredibly sweet.
In just a short while, the two had changed into their new clothes and came over. Skylar abruptly blew the whistle. โGather around!โ
All the students gathered instantly, forming a neat line. Janessa and Christopher exchanged a glance, then hastily joined the group, positioning themselves next to Madelyn. Following that, Skylar taught some new moves.
Bewildered, Janessa and Christopher had no choice but to follow along. It was, after all, the first time the two of them had tried kickboxing, so they were a bit awkward at it. Many actions were not quite up to standard.
Seeing that Madelyn seemed to be doing quite well, evidently having been learning for a while now, Janessa was momentarily filled with uncertainty and surprise. She wondered why Madelyn hadnโt shared anything with her about it.
At that moment, Skylar noticed Janessaโs distracted state and barked, โWhat are you thinking about? Get back to training!โ
Janessa was so frightened that she felt as if she had lost her soul. She forcefully refocused her mind and immediately assumed the correct posture. However, her moves were all wrong. Seeing this, Skylar felt a headache coming on and immediately stepped in to give guidance.
โYour hand shouldnโt be here. It should be at shoulder level. And spread your legs. How can you train with your legs together?โ
Janessa did as she was told, yet a profound sense of despair gnawed at her from within.
Noticing that, Madelyn couldnโt help but stifle a giggle.
On the other hand, Christopher seemed to be making a concerted effort to prove himself, going about it in a rather professional manner.
