Chapter 124 Not Fall For It Again
Meanwhile, after spending the entire day out and about yesterday, Madelyn was utterly exhausted. So, once she returned home and took a bath, she promptly went to sleep.
When Madelyn woke up, the sun was already high in the sky.
Flustered, she glanced at her phone and was taken aback to see that it was already ten in the morning.
After a momentโs reflection, she realized that all her classes today were in the afternoon. Opting to pamper herself, she stayed in bed, lounging around.
As noon approached, she finally got up and prepared a simple meal for herself.
The more Lydia watched Madelyn eat, the more fond she became of her. She couldnโt help but compliment, โMrs. Lockhart, people always say marriage makes couples glow. Youโre indeed looking better with each passing day.โ
Lydiaโs compliment lifted Madelynโs spirits. She responded with a gentle grin.
Feeling buoyant, she made her way to school.
Upon entering the classroom, Madelyn immediately noticed Jillianโs absence. She turned to a nearby classmate and inquired, โWhereโs Jillian?โ
A classmate beside her replied, โIt seems she went to meet with a professor who called her.โ
โI see.โ Madelyn nodded, not paying it any further mind.
Madelyn attended two classes, remaining attentive throughout both sessions in the afternoon. As it was still early, she decided to visit the library to borrow some books.
Previously, she had nearly finished reviewing the books she borrowed. This time, she focused on borrowing books based on key points Jillian provided.
With a stack of books in her hands, Madelyn planned to seek out Sebastian next.
Sebastianโs knack for explaining lessons in a straightforward and easy manner surpassed that of many university professors. To Madelyn, it would be a waste not to take advantage of his expertise.
However, she had no intention of letting Sebastian know her plans. She considered going straight to his office later, hoping to surprise him.
With anticipation stirring in her, Madelyn made her way to the campus entrance.
Suddenly, a female classmate rushed toward her in a flurry as if driven by urgent purpose.
โMadelyn!โ The classmateโs voice trembled with anxiety. โI just saw a group of thugs take Jillian away. You should go check on her right away.โ
Madelynโs expression darkened. โWhere did they go?โ
โThey dragged Jillian into a car and headed toward the southern suburbs,โ the panicked classmate replied urgently, โShe looked terrified, on the verge of tears. You should go after her quickly.โ
Madelyn was instantly taken aback. Oh, no! This is bad!
The southern suburbs were a hotbed of vice, bustling with ruffians, street racers, and even members of the underworld, all congregating in that area.
Madelyn couldnโt fathom what might happen to Jillian, knowing she had been taken to such a perilous area by an unknown group of thugs.
Upon thinking about this, Madelyn immediately expressed her gratitude to the classmate. โThank you.โ
Without hesitation, she ran to the roadside and hailed a cab.
As soon as she got into the car, she urgently instructed the driver. โSir, head to the southern suburbs, please! Hurry!โ
The car sped off into the distance.
Not long after Madelyn departed, Janessa emerged from the side of the entrance. She watched Madelynโs departing car with a sinister grin.
As Janessa lingered, the classmate who had conveyed the urgent message to Madelyn approached her, head bowed with deference. โJanessa, Iโve done as you asked. Soโฆโ
Janessa cut her off with a cold huff, swiftly retrieving five thousand in cash from her purse and passing it over. โGood job.โ
The classmate eagerly took the stack of money, her eyes instantly lighting up. She hadnโt expected making such a large sum of money could be so effortless.
Turning to Janessa, she said earnestly, โJanessa, if you ever need me in the future, donโt hesitate to reach out. Iโll take care of everything no matter how challenging or dangerous the situation is!โ
Janessa hummed in agreement, a smug glint flashing in her eyes.
What they didnโt know was that Madelyn hadnโt gone far at all.
Earlier, when she had hurriedly entered the car, she had sensed something was amiss.
The classmate who witnessed Jillian being taken away appeared to be in a state of utter panic. In such a dire situation, why didnโt she call the police first! She could have at least told the security guard at the entrance or one of the professors first, right? It would have made sense for her to call the police or inform the security guard first, instead of confiding in me, wouldnโt it? I feel as helpless as she does, yet she chose to tell me.
After much consideration, doubts began to creep into Madelynโs heart.
Not long after the car had driven off, she instructed the driver to stop at a bend in the road and then got out of the vehicle.
Finding a secluded spot to hide, she glanced back toward the university entrance and was surprised to see Janessa handing the classmate a stack of money. Itโs her again!
From a distance, Madelyn watched her, feeling extremely irritated. Canโt this woman stop causing trouble?
Give me a break!
Madelyn had no choice but to calmly analyze the current situation. That Jillian had been taken awayโฆ
Madelyn couldnโt help but feel guilty. Sigh. Jan got dragged into this all because Janessa was trying to get toโฆ
Madelyn took deep breaths to regain her composure.
She knew she had to stay calm. If she allowed herself to panic too much, the situation could quickly spiral out of control.
Of course, Madelyn understood the urgency of saving Jillian. Yet, as a vulnerable woman, she hesitated to rush into the dangerous southern suburbs unprepared.
Moreover, Janessaโs ability to orchestrate all of this suggested meticulous preparation well in advance.
The thought of venturing alone into such chaos, where rumors could easily spiral out of control on anonymous platforms, troubled her deeply.
Madelyn had learned hard lessons in her past and was determined not to fall prey to deception again. That was indeed Janessaโs scheme.
At that moment, Janessa stood at the university entrance. With a few curt words, she dismissed the classmate who had delivered the message.
Then, she immediately took out her phone and swiftly sent a message to Sebastian: โSebastian, on my way to the university entrance, I saw Madelyn leaving with Christopher. It seemed like they were headed to the southern suburbs for car racing! You know how chaotic that area is. Racing there is so dangerous. Iโm really worried about Madelyn! What if something bad happens to them!โ
Meanwhile, Sebastian was in his office, diligently attending to business matters.
His phone buzzed, and he casually picked it up to read the message.
After reading the message, he remained outwardly calm as usual, showing no dramatic change in his expression.
Yet, his brows knit slightly, and he tightened his grip on his phone.
During this period, Sebastian noticed significant changes in Madelyn and was struck by her newfound sincerity in managing their relationship.
However, the moment Christopherโs image crossed his mind, Sebastian couldnโt help but frown, a hint of disdain etched on his face.
