Reborn to My Engagement Night Chapter 158 Most Likely Pretending

โ€œI came to have dinner with you. Is that not okay?โ€ Madelyn said with a playful grin.

โ€œSebastian, we have a meeting later,โ€ Harriet reminded him impassively.

Her tone was frosty, as if indirectly rejecting Madelyn on behalf of Sebastian.

Feeling somewhat strange, Madelyn glanced at Harriet before turning to Sebastian, asking awkwardly, โ€œUm, are you guys still busy?โ€

โ€œOf course,โ€ Harriet said sharply. She didnโ€™t even spare Madelyn a glance as she spoke, an icy arrogance radiating from her.

This chilling and piercing sensation made Madelynโ€™s skin crawl as if covered with prickly thorns.

Originally, Sebastian did have a meeting to attend. However, seeing Madelynโ€™s aggrieved expression and knowing she had specifically come and waited for him for so long, he couldnโ€™t bear to turn her away.

Hence, he chuckled. โ€œIโ€™m not busy anymore. Letโ€™s have dinner together.โ€

After saying that, he turned to Harriet impassively. โ€œLetโ€™s discuss the meeting another day. Iโ€™ll have my assistant inform you of the exact time. You should go home for now.โ€

Harrietโ€™s face evidently stiffened.

Who knew Sebastian would be willing to postpone such an important meeting for the sake of this girl?

However, Harriet didnโ€™t say another word and turned to leave.

Following that, Sebastian neatly put away the documents on the table before heading downstairs with his arm wrapped around Madelyn.

โ€œWhat would you like to eat?โ€ he asked nonchalantly.

โ€œHmmโ€ฆ steak,โ€ she replied.

โ€œSure.โ€

And so, the two set off to have steak.

Throughout the drive, Madelyn sat in the passenger seat. Initially, she had intended to strike up a casual conversation with Sebastian.

However, when she turned around, she noticed his solemn expression, as if something was troubling him.

She couldnโ€™t help but ask, โ€œSebastian, are you in a bad mood? Has something happened?โ€

Sebastian replied calmly. โ€œItโ€™s nothing serious, just some business matters. I might need to go abroad in two days."

โ€œOh.โ€ Madelyn nodded, her brows subconsciously furrowing as her mind suddenly became a chaotic mess.

Chapter 158 Most Likely Pretending

Vaguely, Madelyn seemed to sense that something bad was about to happen.

However, at the same time, she couldnโ€™t recall anything. It all felt chaotic, and she couldnโ€™t make head or tail of it.

After a while, the two arrived at a European restaurant and each ordered a serving of black pepper steak.

As she was eating, Madelyn also seemed somewhat distracted.

She found it oddly difficult to exert strength when cutting the steak with a knife and fork.

Countless images flew across her mind, chaotic like a jumbled mess of honeycomb briquettes.

Madelyn tried her hardest to recall what happened this time in her previous life. However, it was as if her memories were blocked, and no matter how hard she racked her brains, she couldnโ€™t remember even the slightest hint of what had transpired.

In the end, after thinking for too long, a sudden jolt of pain shot through her mind.

Madelyn instantly paled and supported her head with her right hand, somewhat weakly propped on the table.

A surge of anxiety seized Sebastian when he saw that. โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong?โ€

โ€œItโ€™s nothingโ€ฆโ€ Madelyn shook her head. โ€œJust a bit of a headache. Itโ€™s no big deal.โ€

She resumed eating, but it was as if her hand had lost all its strength as she couldnโ€™t cut through the steak.

Sebastian observed her frail appearance, his heart filled with worry. He immediately put down his knife and fork, took her hand, and led her outside.

โ€œSebastian?โ€ Madelyn called out, perplexed.

He responded firmly, โ€œWeโ€™re going to the hospital.โ€

Before long, they arrived at the hospital, and she underwent a series of medical examinations.

After the examination, the doctor calmly stated, โ€œBased on the check-up, there are no abnormalities in the patientโ€™s brain. The headaches are likely due to a recent lack of sleep or overuse of the brain. As for her hand lacking strength, itโ€™s likely due to numbness or temporary weakness. These are all normal occurrences. Thereโ€™s no need to worry.โ€

โ€œAre you sure?โ€ Sebastian couldnโ€™t help but frown after hearing that.

โ€œYou can rest assured, sir. Our examinations here are the most prestigious, and there has never been a mistake,โ€ the doctor assured.

Sebastian wasnโ€™t exactly doubting the hospital, but he found it strange. How could Madelyn have a headache out of the blue?

Madelyn also found it a bit odd. I donโ€™t feel like Iโ€™m suffering from sleep deprivation or overusing my brain as the doctor suggested. So why is this happening?

Chapter 158 Most Likely Pretending

Since her reincarnation, it seemed like this was the first time such a situation had occurred.

Just then, Sebastianโ€™s phone rang.

He pulled out his phone, discovering it was a call from Wesley.

The latterโ€™s loud voice came through immediately after the call connected. โ€œSebastian, where are you? Werenโ€™t we supposed to meet up later to discuss some matters?โ€

After glancing at Madelyn worriedly, Sebastian replied coldly, โ€œMadelyn isnโ€™t feeling well. Weโ€™re at the hospital now."

โ€œOh, I seeโ€ฆโ€ Wesley responded, nodding. โ€œAll right. Take good care of her. Weโ€™ll talk tomorrow.โ€

After saying that, he hung up the phone.

Wesley turned and said to Harriet with a hint of helplessness, โ€œToo bad. Sebastian is currently with that girl at the hospital.โ€

โ€œIs she sick?โ€ Harrietโ€™s voice was cold.

Wesley nodded, unable to resist commenting, โ€œBut in my opinion, sheโ€™s most likely pretending, probably because she doesnโ€™t want Sebastian to come out.โ€

Upon hearing his words, Harriet remained impassive, looking neither happy nor unhappy. She stared at a spot in the distance, lost in unknown thoughts.

Finally, she asked calmly. โ€œThat woman seems to have changed a lot, hasnโ€™t she?โ€

Wesley snorted. โ€œThatโ€™s one way of putting it. I still remember, back then, she used to deck herself out like a total misfit, always stirring up trouble any way she could and being unreasonable and troublesome. It was enough to give anyone a headache just by looking at her.โ€

He paused before continuing, โ€œLater on, it was as if she somehow underwent a complete transformation after she got engaged to Sebastian. She began to take the initiative to get close to him, showing various signs of affection. Gradually, she didnโ€™t seem so annoying. Though sheโ€™s still very willful, there were moments when she revealed a touch of girlish charm.โ€

While talking, Wesley suddenly realized he had gone off topic and added earnestly, โ€œBut I still feel that sheโ€™s putting on an act! How can someoneโ€™s personality change overnight in this world? So, I seriously suspect that girl might be up to something again.โ€

Harriet nonchalantly furrowed her brows, acting indifferent.

She had always thought Madelyn was nothing more than a silly little girl, hardly a threat.

Even though the latter had somewhat changed, Harriet still didnโ€™t take her seriously.
