Chapter 179 Whatever You Say
Madelyn took out her phone and called Sebastian.
โWhatโs up?โ Sebastianโs voice, usually cold, seemed to carry an unexpected warmth over the line.
A slight smile appeared at the corner of Madelynโs mouth by reflex.
โI might not be coming home for dinner tonight. Dadโs sick, and I want to stay here to take care of him. Is that okay?โ Madelyn inquired softly.
Sebastian gave a slight nod, grunting in affirmation. At this, Madelyn also found herself at ease.
The entire afternoon passed, and Madelyn didnโt go anywhere.
Her father was upstairs, resting. She, on the other hand, sat cross-legged on the living room couch downstairs, watching television to pass the time. Every now and then, she would venture to the refrigerator in search of a snack before returning to her spot on the couch.
Regina and Eunice were watching her closely from the side. Seeing her acting as if nothing was wrong the entire afternoon, they rolled their eyes in annoyance.
When night fell, Derek had awakened, and dinner was prepared. The butler was about to take a portion upstairs for Derek when the doorbell rang.
Reluctantly, the butler turned to open the door. As the door swung open, there stood Sebastian, impeccably dressed in a suit and leather shoes. His handsome figure radiated an extraordinary charisma at the entrance.
The butler promptly lowered his head, respectfully announcing, โMr. Lockhart has arrived.โ
โMmm-hmm.โ With a nonchalant response, Sebastian walked straight in.
โSebastian? What are you doing here?โ Upon seeing Sebastian, a wave of joy surged through Madelyn. Her face lit up, making her look even more attractive.
Although Sebastian remained expressionless, he inexplicably felt a touch of joy inside.
He then said nonchalantly, โYour father is ill, isnโt he? I came to pay him a visit.โ
After he finished speaking, Malcolm, carrying bags of all sizes, entered through the door.
The items he held in his hands were evidently expensive supplements.
โLet me take you to him then,โ Madelyn said with a gentle smile.
Sebastian nodded, following along.
At that moment, Regina and Eunice were both in the room, seemingly engrossed in a conversation with Derek, the content of which was unknown.
When Madelyn and Sebastian entered, the mother-daughter duo immediately straightened up.
โSebastian prepared supplements and came to pay a visit,โ
In response, Malcolm promptly placed all the supplements on the ground.
โSebastian, I appreciate it.โ Derek, lying on the bed, saw this and his face broke into a warm smile.
โDonโt mention it.โ A slight smile tugged at the corner of Sebastianโs mouth.
Derek continued to ask, โHave you eaten?โ
Sebastian responded truthfully, โNot yet.โ
Immediately, Derek turned his gaze toward Regina, โRegina, quick, get the housekeeper to prepare dinner!โ
โMr. Thornton, your meal is ready.โ At this moment, the butler walked in respectfully, holding the portion prepared for Derek.
โThatโs good then,โ Derek said, feeling relieved.
At that moment, no one noticed how brightly Euniceโs eyes were shining, as if tiny stars were about to burst forth from them.
Eunice ogled at Sebastian intently, her heart pounding uncontrollably as she was overwhelmed with excitement.
She wished she could just go up, hoist Sebastian onto her shoulders, and then selfishly hide him for herself, not allowing anyone to sneak even a glance at him.
In truth, Sebastian had also sensed it.
From the moment he stepped through the door, a pair of eyes had been fixated on him. However, Sebastian had no interest in finding out who it was, so he simply acted as if he was oblivious to it.
Then, he asked, โDad, how are you feeling?โ
Derek let out a sigh. โIโm okay, I guess. Thereโs no pain or illness, but for some reason, I just canโt muster any energy.โ
Upon hearing these words, Sebastianโs gaze slightly darkened. โDad, rest assured that Iโll arrange for the best doctors in the country to examine you as soon as possible.โ
Upon hearing this, Regina immediately shook her head. โThatโs not necessary!โ
Sebastian cast a puzzled glance at her.
Regina quickly corrected herself, โOh, what I mean to say is, Derek has just been overworking. A few days of rest should do the trick. Sebastian, I appreciate your filial piety, but thereโs really no need to trouble yourself further.โ
โYeah, I know my own body. Iโm fine. You guys donโt need to worry,โ Derek added.
โDad's illness is unclear, and it must be thoroughly investigated. Nowadays, many people suffer from hidden diseases. They show no symptoms before they act up, and by the time theyโre detected, itโs already too late!โ
After Madelyn finished speaking, her expression softened a little. โDad, please listen to me, you should get a check-up.โ
Derek was momentarily taken aback.
Surprisingly, his precious daughter was so concerned about his health, which touched him deeply.
So, Derek nodded. โAlright, whatever you say.โ
However, his answer triggered a change in Reginaโs expression. A malicious glint flashed in her eyes, but it was gone as quickly as it appeared.
However, the sight didnโt escape Madelyn, who sniggered to herself, yet she remained calm and composed on the surface.
Afterward, holding Sebastianโs hand, she spoke sweetly. โAlright, letโs go downstairs to have our dinner. Dad, make sure you get some rest.โ
With that, she turned around and left.
Derek was lying in bed, watching the affectionate silhouette of the young couple. His heart was filled with a deep sense of contentment.
Who would have thought that as soon as Madelyn stepped out of the room, she began nagging Sebastian, โLook at the time, how could you forget to have your meal? All you ever think about is work. You really donโt take care of yourself. Iโm not going to bother about you anymore.โ
Having said that, Madelyn deliberately took a few steps away from Sebastian.
That gesture was somewhat childish, but to Sebastian, it was incredibly endearing.
Thus, he explained flatly. โIt wasnโt intentional. I just had a lot on my plate today, so I forgot.โ
While they were talking, the two had already made their way to the dining table and took their seats.
โOf course, I understand youโve been busy,โ Madelyn stated, still sounding a bit upset. โBut your health should always come first. You can forget everything else, but you must never forget to have regular meals."
No sooner had the words been spoken than a piece of fish meat found its way onto Madelynโs plate.
After Sebastian silently put it there, he put some food into his mouth and said nonchalantly. โMmm-hmm, Iโll keep that in mind.โ
Madelyn felt both amused and exasperated, but above all, a warmth filled her heart.
On top of that, Sebastianโs way of eating was so elegant that Madelyn found it pleasing to watch, her annoyance easing quickly.
Soon, the two of them finished their meal.
โDaughter whoโs married becomes a member of another family. Already in such a hurry to return to spend the evening with your husband, arenโt you?โ
Upon hearing these words, Madelynโs face involuntarily flushed.
She then chuckled and said, โDad, isnโt it too early to say something like that? Letโs wait until after Sebastian and I are married before we start making such statements."
Derek could only chuckle. โAlright, alright, youโre absolutely right. Itโs getting late, you should hurry home and rest.โ
