Chapter 229 There Was No Stopping Her Anymore
โYouโve already mentioned how chaotic that place is, of course, I wonโt be going. Donโt worry.โ Madelynโs smile was so bright that it lit up her face.
However, Selinstian gave her a deep, skeptical look, clearly not believing her.
Based on his understanding of Madelyn, he knew she wouldnโt ask anything without a reason. If she asked about something, it could be said with certainty that she had a goal in mind.
However, for this particular task, Madelyn would rather bear the burden alone than share it with him.
Soon, the two of them finished their meal.
After carefully assisting Sebastian up the stairs, Madelyn then headed for the bathroom to take a shower.
Sitting on the couch outside, Sebastian pulled out his phone and dialed his assistant, Malcolm.
โMrs. Lockhart might visit the black market soon. Assign some people to shadow her. Ensure she doesnโt get into any trouble. Report back to me immediately if anything comes up.โ Sebastianโs voice was chilling enough to send shivers down oneโs spine.
โYes, sir.โ Malcolm respectfully accepted the command.
Upon hanging up, Malcolm immediately made another phone call, conveying Sebastianโs instructions to Harriet. He asked her to send her subordinates to follow Madelyn, ensuring the latterโs safety.
โWhat? You want my people to protect Madelyn?โ Harriet was simply astounded.
โYes. Please act immediately,โ With that, Malcolm abruptly ended the call.
At that moment, Harriet wanted to get rid of Madelyn more than anything.
Her subordinates were composed entirely of elite fighters who had undergone rigorous, professional training!
She could not believe Sebastian had instructed her subordinates to protect a mere Madelyn.
Harriet couldnโt help but curse under her breath. Whatโs wrong with that woman? Why would she leave the house for no good reason? Sheโs such a handful. Thatโs so annoying!
Although she was annoyed, Harriet didnโt dare to defy Sebastianโs command.
Thus, even though she was displeased, Harriet had no choice but to comply and send out her subordinates to lend a hand.
However, only two of her subordinates were assigned.
Moreover, the two selected ones were the ones that Harriet usually had the least regard for, believing them to be the most useless out of all her elite fighters.
In the end, Harriet specially instructed, โDracon and Tigra, listen carefully. You know Mrs. Lockhartโs personality. She always likes to stand in the spotlight. So, you two must not steal her limelight. Assess the situation carefully and only intervene when absolutely necessary. Do you understand?โ
โYes, maโam!โ The loyal Dracon and Tigra immediately nodded.
In truth, they were well aware that Harriet had always harbored feelings for Sebastian. Naturally, she had not intended for them to take protecting Madelyn seriously.
Sending them was merely a formality, nothing more.
Dracon and Tigra exchanged knowing glances, and neither of them took the task of protecting Madelyn to heart.
The next day, Madelyn went to class.
Throughout the entire class, Josiah fixed his gaze on Madelyn. He appeared to be extremely anxious.
After the class, Madelyn was whispering secrets to Jillian when Josiah shamelessly interrupted, โHey, hey, hey, what secrets are you sharing? I want to hear, too.โ
Madelyn fell silent and rolled her eyes before heading to the restroom. Josiah casually followed behind her, feigning indifference, โWhat a coincidence, I was also thinking of going to the restroom.โ
During lunch hour, he stuck even closer to Madelyn, almost as if he couldnโt bear to be a step away from her. It was as if he was worried that she would run off the moment he blinked.
With great enthusiasm, he offered, โMadelyn, what would you like to eat? My treat today.โ
When it was time to eat, Josiah intentionally seated himself close to Madelyn. Without uttering a word, he transferred all the meat from his bowl to hers.
With a tone of concern, he said, โYouโre too thin, you should eat more meat.โ
After observing their interactions for some time, Jillian concluded that Josiahโs behavior was completely out of the ordinary.
Leaning closer to Tristan beside her, she began to speculate.
โWhatโs up with Mr. Josiah today?โ she asked. โHe seems off. Heโs being more clingy than a band-aid, wouldnโt you say?โ
Upon hearing this, Tristan covered his mouth and chuckled softly. โCan you smell the unmistakable stench of love in the air?โ
โHuh?โ Jillian asked, puzzled.
Suddenly, realization dawned on her. โOh my god!โ she exclaimed. โYouโre not suggesting they have that kind of relationship, are you?โ
Tristan merely smiled, neither confirming nor denying it.
Jillian felt a surge of shock. Without a word, she immediately gripped Madelyn and pulled her aside. She whispered, โMadelyn, you and Josiah wouldnโt happen to be in that kind of relationship, would you?โ
โWhat kind of relationship?โ Madelyn asked, puzzled.
Jillian wondered if there were any hints of romance, but she did not dare to say it aloud. All she could do was blush and mutter. โYou know. The kind of relationship between a guy and a girl.โ
โWhat? Thatโs impossible! Youโre overthinking it.โ Madelyn quickly caught on and immediately denied it without any hesitation.
โDonโt forget, I still have an incredibly handsome man at home.โ
โOh. Thatโs true.โ Jillian agreed thoughtfully, โI do think you and Mr. Lockhart make a better pair. As for Josiah, heโs still a bit too immature.โ
Madelyn let out a sigh of relief before tapping Jillian on the head in a playful manner. โWhy, you. Instead of worrying about other peopleโs business, you should focus on finding yourself a partner,โ Madelyn teased.
โI-I still have plenty of time. I want to focus on my studies.โ A blush swiftly spread across Jillianโs fair face. With that, Madelyn stopped the banter and headed straight for Josiah.
With a smile, she confronted him. โHey, youโve already been following me around the entire day today.โ
โHave I? You must be imagining things.โ Josiah denied with his head held high.
Madelyn found Josiahโs demeanor amusing, yet it warmed her heart to know that he cared.
Yet, with unwavering resolve, she declared, โYou donโt need to follow me anymore. Iโve made up my mind. I will most definitely go to the black market.โ
As she spoke, Madelynโs face held an unshakeable determination.
Since the villain was intent on harming her father, Madelyn was determined to expose him!
โAlright thenโฆโ Upon hearing this, Josiah couldnโt help but feel a bit helpless.
He genuinely didnโt want Madelyn to take risks by going to such places, which was why he had been keeping a constant eye on her. He was afraid that she might suddenly decide to go there alone.
To his dismay, it seemed like there was no stopping her anymore.
That evening, after the rehearsal had concluded, Madelyn turned to her friends.
โWell, Iโll be on my way now. Iโve still got a few things to handle, so I wonโt be joining you guys,โ Madelyn said, waving goodbye.
โAlright, take care,โ Jillian replied.
With that, Madelyn left on her own.
As he watched her determined, slender figure walking further away from them in the darkness, Josiah suddenly felt an overwhelming sense of unease. He hurried after her.
โLet me walk you home,โ Josiah offered earnestly as he caught up with her.
Upon hearing this, Madelyn couldnโt help but tease, โWhat on earth are you up to, Josiah? Youโre not trying to make a move on me, are you? Even my boyfriend isnโt this devoted to me.โ
Upon hearing these words, Josiah rolled his eyes so hard that they almost got stuck behind his head. โPub-lease. Where on earth did you get such delusional confidence?โ
He paused for a moment before continuing. โBut no matter what you say, Iโm walking you home today. Your refusal wonโt make a difference.โ
