Chapter 240 Afraid You Would Be Worried
Sure enough, as soon as the virus infiltrated the computer, it was met with strong resistance from the system. In less than a minute, the virus was completely eradicated by Hexagon.
The computer expert stared at the scene unfolding before him, utterly stunned. Even for someone highly skilled in computer technology, it would still take some effort to eliminate these two viruses.
Hexagon operated on a principle of forceful obliteration toward anything it rejected. Aside from information authorized by the black market system password, it accepted virtually nothing.
He had no choice but to concede. He said with a hint of admiration, "Mr. Septimus, the software she installed indeed proved its worth. What I just introduced was the tricky T38 Virus, a new threat that emerged a few days ago. Thereโs currently no solution available on the market, yet Hexagon managed to obliterate it directly. Itโs clear that its defensive capabilities are topโnotch!"
Septimus was surprised, but at the same time, he finally felt a bit relieved.
It seems she was telling the truth. All she desires is to know the origin of that packet of drugs. This is a profitable business.
"Iโve done my part. Itโs your turn now," Madelyn said with a smile.
When Septimus saw that she was a woman of her word, he didnโt beat around the bush. He said directly, "The drug you gave me has been banned for a long time. Two years ago, we began enforcing strict prohibitions on such drugs within the black market, and those involved in circulating such goods faced severe punishment. But itโs really hard for me to be sure that thereโs nothing shady going on behind the scenes. If you truly want to know the answer, could you give me some time to look into it?"
When he said these words, the sincerity in his expression was unparalleled.
Madelyn was slightly taken aback. She had never imagined that the waters of the black market ran so deep. Even Septimus, a highโranking figure, had no idea about the exact origin of these drugs.
It seemed the situation wasnโt as simple as it appeared.
Madelyn had no intention of troubling Septimus. Since he needed some time, she decided to grant him that.
โIโll give you some time to look into it, then. Iโll come back in a couple of days to check on the progress,โ Madelyn said calmly, then turned around and left.
โWait,โ Septimus suddenly exclaimed.
โIs there anything else?โ Madelyn turned around to ask.
Septimus courteously chuckled. โYou come and go without a trace. I wonโt be able to find you even if I rely on someone of your skill in the future.โ
โOh?โ Madelyn responded with a smile that was not quite a smile. โIt seems youโre quite determined to get close to me, arenโt you?โ
โIndeed,โ Septimus said honestly.
He swiftly took a card from one of his subordinates standing next to him and handed it over to Madelyn.
โWhat is this?โ At first, Madelyn thought it was a business card, but upon closer inspection, it wasnโt. This left her somewhat puzzled.
Septimus replied, โI apologize for any offense earlier. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me. As a gesture of sincerity, please accept this card. It grants you unrestricted access within our circles, and if you ever face trouble in the black market, present itโno one will dare cross you. Our bodyguards will undoubtedly come to your aid.โ
Madelyn was flattered. From her memories of her past life, there were only ten of these black cards in existence. They were incredibly precious.
Septimus' unexpected gift spoke volumes about his sincerity.
After much consideration, Madelyn finally made up her mind and agreed, โAll right, my name is Madelyn Thornton.โ
Following that, she jotted down her contact information on a piece of paper.
Septimus observed her efficient actions and complimented her, โMs. Thornton, you are the most straightforward woman Iโve ever met.โ
Madelyn responded with a knowing smile, then promptly turned and departed.
After they left the casino, Josiah was still somewhat anxious. He closely followed behind, questioning, โMadelyn, you just revealed your identity to Mr. Septimus. Is that really okay?โ
โThereโs nothing not okay about it,โ Madelyn shrugged indifferently. โBesides, based on my observations these past couple of days, Mr. Septimus seems to be a decent person to associate with. If he tries any tricks, I can handle it. So, donโt worry.โ
Madelyn casually patted Josiahโs shoulder. โAll right, itโs getting late. You should head back and rest. Iโll be on my way.โ
โOkay, goodbye.โ
Both of them returned to their respective homes.
Madelyn was utterly exhausted today, her body aching all over. The moment she arrived at the Thornton residence, the first thing she wanted to do was take a hot bath and hit the sack early.
Upon returning to the room, she discovered that Sebastian had come again.
Madelyn felt a sudden chill run down her spine, her heartbeat escalating uncontrollably, showing no signs of slowing down.
However, this time, Sebastian merely gave her a profound look, without uttering a single word.
Madelyn had no choice but to resort to yesterdayโs method. She used the excuse of getting clothes from the wardrobe for a bath, and then casually stuffed the clothes she had disguised herself in into it.
When Madelyn was fully immersed in the bathtub, she quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
He didnโt notice anything, did he?
At that very moment, Sebastianโs brows were furrowed together. As he looked at the clothes that she had worn in the wardrobe, an inexplicable irritation welled up in his chest.
What on earth is she up to? Why is she hiding everything? Is it a secret that canโt be disclosed?
The next morning, Sebastian went to the office. Unable to contain his anger, he promptly summoned Harriet.
As soon as Harriet stepped into the office, she distinctly felt a wave of icy tension that sent chills down her spine.
Sebastianโs face was expressionless, yet it was clear he was displeased. โI asked you to have someone secretly follow Mrs. Lockhart. How did that go?โ
โIโฆโ Harriet stammered cautiously.
Sebastian shot her a cold, piercing look.
Harriet was instantly shaken with fear. Immediately, she guessed that Sebastian must have already uncovered some clues. She dared not lie and confessed everything right away.
โSebastian, I didnโt tell you because I was afraid youโd be worried. Ms. Thornton has been going to the black market these past few days.โ
โWhy didnโt you tell me!โ Sebastian suddenly erupted in anger, his hand slamming down hard on the table.
In an unprecedented moment, Sebastianโs anger erupted, directed squarely at Harriet. The intensity of his emotions sent her heart racing.
But upon recalling the reason for his anger, Harriet couldnโt help but be consumed by intense jealousy.
