Chapter 261 More Terrifying Than Death
As soon as Sebastian walked into the police station, everyone was silenced by his intimidating aura.
โWhereโs your chief?โ Malcolm said, standing next to Sebastian.
โMr. Lockhart, we are honored by your visit. Forgive us for not welcoming you properly.โ A male voice rang out before a man in uniform strode forward. He was none other than the chief of the police station. Though he wasnโt submissive upon seeing Sebastian, his demeanor remained respectful.
Sebastian gave him a nonchalant glance, his voice laced with frigidness. โWhere is he?โ
The chief immediately responded, โHe is currently being interrogated inside.โ
โDid you find out anything?โ
โUmโฆ no. The thug refused to say anything. Thereโs nothing we can do,โ the chief admitted, lowering his head in embarrassment.
Upon hearing these words, Sebastian didnโt say anything more. He strode ahead while the chief caught up with him, leading the way. โMr. Lockhart, this way, please.โ
Following that, the trio arrived at the interrogation room.
The interrogation room was bathed in a stark, cold light, immediately casting a chilling sensation upon entry.
At that moment, the thug was clad in prison garb, handcuffed tightly to a chair. It was clear he had been subjected to torment, for he appeared frail, his eyes blank and unfocused.
โChief, his lips are sealed tight. No matter how harshly we interrogated him, he still wouldnโt say a word. Weโre at a loss for what to do with him.โ A criminal police officer sighed, addressing the chief.
Sebastian couldnโt help but furrow his striking brows.
Suddenly, he stepped forward, his tall and imposing figure looming over the thug. In a daze, the thug lifted his head and thought he had seen a deity.
โWho instructed you to tamper with the stage light?โ Sebastian asked in a cold voice.
The thug shuddered and became somewhat lucid. Then, gritting his teeth fiercely, he declared, โNobody. I did it all on my own!โ
โAre you sure?โ Sebastian raised an eyebrow slightly, a hint of displeasure in his gaze. โHand me the electric baton.โ
The thug was taken aback at first but soon began to wail in despair, โWhat? No! No! Iโm telling the truth! I did it all on my own, I swear! Argh!โ
The sound of electric current sizzled in the air, as Sebastian, expressionless, pressed the electric baton against the thugโs leg. The thug was immediately electrified, his vision going blank as his body contorted and spasmed. Eventually, even his screams got caught in his throat.
The officers nearby watched with grimaces. They were always cautious not to harm the criminals while tormenting the thug. Is he just cruel, or is he a cold-blooded psychopath?
Sebastian finally lifted the electric baton and spared the thug when the latter almost foamed at the mouth. His aura was intimidating as he spoke, his gaze emotionless. โStill not talking?โ
The thug, finally catching a break, looked up at Sebastian. His gaze filled with trepidation, for the agony of being electrified was more terrifying than death itself.
This man seems incredibly cold, showing no intention of having mercy on me. I might really meet my end here.
The thought of dying in this interrogation room terrified the thug to the core. His voice trembled as he stammered, โIโฆ Iโฆโ
โYouโre asking for trouble.โ Sebastianโs brows furrowed as he lost his patience. Without any hesitation, he aimed the baton directly at the thugโs groinโa manโs most vulnerable spot.
No man could withstand such a blow, and sure enough, the thug panicked when he saw where the electric baton was aimed. He was almost beside himself with fear. โNo, no, no, I beg you! Iโll talk, Iโll talk, Iโll talk! Someoneโฆ someone paid me to do this!โ
The electric baton halted mid-air before it could make contact with the thugโs manhood.
Upon hearing this, Sebastian gave Malcolm a knowing look. Malcolm, grasping his bossโ meaning, pulled out his notebook, ready to take notes.
The thug broke out in a cold sweat. He didnโt dare to lie anymore and spilled the beans. โHonestly, I donโt know who transferred the money to me. But I do remember the account. The person found me through an online transaction and warned me that if I dared to reveal this, my life would be on the lineโฆโ
โWhatโs the account number?โ Malcolm asked, knowing that the task was already half accomplished. He couldnโt help but admire Sebastianโs impressive tactics. Mr. Lockhart sure doesnโt disappoint!
Sebastian saw no need to linger after getting what he wanted. He promptly instructed Malcolm to investigate the account in question while he drove back to the company himself.
After finishing her morning classes, Madelyn spent her afternoon helping at her fatherโs company.
Recently, she had been devoting herself wholeheartedly to managing the company, which had left her somewhat mentally drained. Thankfully, the practical skills taught by Malcolm had been quite useful; hence, she did not find handling the companyโs affairs too challenging.
However, she discovered something while she was handling confidential company documents recently.
Over the past couple of years, several individuals had been strategically placed in the companyโs executive positions. These individuals were all affiliated with her stepmother, Regina. The companyโs most crucial finance department, in particular, was now under the management of Zachary. This effectively facilitated further infiltration into the companyโs financial affairs.
At this thought, Madelyn couldnโt help but sneer.
Iโll do everything in my power to prevent this. Regina can forget about her desire to monopolize Thornton Corporation! Dream on!
Following that, Madelyn sorted out the documents, ready to discuss the matter with her father.
Upon entering the office, she happened to overhear a conversation between a young man and her father. She recognized the man as Ian Lindt. Despite his young age, he had already graduated from a prestigious university and had become the deputy manager of the finance department at Thornton Corporation. He was undeniably talented.
However, he held another crucial role, which was Derekโs most trusted confidant. Derek had strategically placed him in the finance department, which was, in fact, a clever move on his part.
At that moment, Ian spoke softly and cautiously. โMr. Thornton, somethingโs off with one of the projectโs billing statements recently.โ
โWhat do you mean?โ Derek asked.
Ian spoke in a hushed tone. โThe details are still under investigation, so itโs not entirely clear. But what is certain is that the finance manager has detained it and couldnโt get a hold of it.โ
โThe finance manager? Isnโt that Euniceโs uncle?โ At this moment, Madelyn stepped forward nervously. This matter was exactly what she wanted to report to her father.
Ian nodded solemnly. โExactly. Moreover, ever since the finance manager took office, he had been frequently carrying out activities without informing us subordinates. He insisted that the companyโs financial information is confidential, and we arenโt allowed to review it. Even I, as the deputy manager, am not allowed. So, I was thinkingโฆโ
It became clear that Zachary was definitely hiding something.
