Chapter 267: Hit The Target

Adelar reported truthfully, โ€œBoss, thereโ€™s a rumor going around that Sebastian, whoโ€™s engaged to Ms. Thornton, had one of his subordinates kidnapped by Hellfire Creed. Both parties have agreed to a trade-off tonight at the abandoned Red Cross hospital on the outskirts. Violetโ€™s currently a celebrity in Hellfire Creed, so sheโ€™s likely to make an appearanceโ€ฆโ€

Grimoโ€™s countenance became incredibly gloomy.

These two incidents had unexpectedly connected. It was the perfect opportunity to take care of them all.

โ€œAdelar, gather enough manpower immediately. Donโ€™t spare anyone in Hellfire Creed, including Violet!โ€ Grimoโ€™s gaze hardened as if he were a predatory beast targeting his prey, an aura of slaughter emanating from him.

โ€œGot it,โ€ Adelar nodded.

At that moment, Madelyn suddenly said seriously, โ€œIโ€™m going too!โ€

Grimo gave her a nonchalant glance and said indifferently, โ€œWhy are you meddling in this? You should just stay put in the hotel.โ€

โ€œNo, I must go!โ€ Madelyn declared with unwavering determination. โ€œI can be of help.โ€

โ€œMs. Thornton, Iโ€™d advise against it,โ€ Adelar suggested. โ€œYour last stunt of pretending to be Morgana was crazy enough. But this time, things are even more terrifying. A blood war is about to break out, and your life could be at stake. Besides, and pardon my bluntness, youโ€™d only be in the way.โ€ He genuinely thought this woman was too impulsive and reckless.

To his surprise, Madelyn became agitated. โ€œAdelar, how could you say that? Granted, my impersonation of Morgana last time was indeed inappropriate, but that was in the past, and this time is different! I specifically came all the way from Clusia just to help out. If you wonโ€™t let me go, you might as well just shoot me right now.โ€

Moreover, Sebastianโ€™s in deep trouble this time. How could I not try to save him? If anything were to happen to him, how am I supposed to live?

Seeing Madelynโ€™s unwavering stance, both Adelar and Grimo were stumped.

But this was a matter of life and death, not something to be taken lightly.

Adelar explained, โ€œMs. Thornton, Iโ€™m just concerned about your safety. The people weโ€™ve deployed for this mission have all undergone rigorous tests by our organization. You, with no particular combat skills, would only be in the way.โ€

โ€œWho says I donโ€™t have skills?โ€ Madelyn retorted defiantly, raising her voice. โ€œTell me, how are you going to test me?โ€

Adelar was taken aback.

He glanced at Grimo, who appeared to be at a loss. Left with no choice, he nodded at Adelar.

Adelar asked, โ€œMs. Thornton, do you know how to use a gun? Tonightโ€™s situation is extremely dangerous.โ€

Madelyn didnโ€™t show the slightest hesitation. She was well aware of the danger she was in, but since she had come all the way here, she had mentally prepared herself.

Confidently, she said, โ€œI can do it. Back in Clusia, I practiced shooting quite frequently. I believe my skills are up to par. If you have any doubts, feel free to put me to the test.โ€

Defeated by Madelynโ€™s stubbornness, Adelar reluctantly nodded. โ€œSince you insist, Iโ€™ll test your strength then.โ€

With that, he led Madelyn to a deserted stretch of road.

The road was eerily quiet with hardly any pedestrians in sight. Adelar thought it was the perfect place to test her, so he pointed to a street lamp and said, โ€œMs. Thornton, if you truly wish to demonstrate your strength, knock that lamp down."

Madelyn followed the direction of his pointing finger. The lamp was about ten meters away, seemingly easy to hit, so she nodded. โ€œAll right.โ€

Following that, Adelar drew a gun from his waist and handed it to Madelyn. โ€œThis gun is a standard issue from our arsenal. Use it to shoot.โ€

Madelyn accepted the gun without any objections.

Adelar intuitively took a step back, providing her with ample room to shine. Grimo, too, stood aside and watched Madelyn.

Madelyn didnโ€™t hesitate at all. She lifted the gun, shut her left eye, and used her right one to aim at the streetlight. Then, she pulled the trigger.

Following a deafening bang, the bullet whizzed past the streetlight, creating a metallic clashing sound.

It went astray.

Madelyn gazed at the streetlight and felt vexed. Looks like thereโ€™s a significant difference between the air gun used during training and a real firearm. The recoil of a real gun is slightly greater than that of an airsoft gun, making it a bit harder to control. However, Madelyn didnโ€™t mind. She figured that if she aimed a little lower, she should be able to compensate for the difference.

So she turned around to face Adelar. โ€œAdelar, that was my first time using this gun and Iโ€™m not quite used to it. Could you give me another chance?โ€

Adelar acquiesced.

Following that, Madelyn lowered her aim slightly, not allowing herself time to hesitate before she pulled the trigger.

With a loud bang, the once intact lightbulb was instantly shattered. It broke into countless glass fragments, scattering across the floor and creating a crisp sound as they fell.

Her shot had hit its mark.

Adelar was taken aback by the scene, but upon reflection, he dismissed Madelynโ€™s success as a mere fluke. Nonchalantly, he pointed to a streetlight twenty meters away. โ€œNext, please try hitting that one.โ€

The second streetlight was about twenty meters away. As the distance made it appear significantly smaller to the eye, hitting it posed quite a challenge.

However, Madelyn thought nothing of it. She simply raised her hand, took aim, and hit the mark.

Adelar was genuinely taken aback this time, pointing incredulously toward the next target. โ€œDo you see that beer bottle by the roadside? Hit that one.โ€

Madelyn remained unfazed. Lifting the gun, she aimed at the green beer bottle. Once again, she hit it in one try.

Adelar was dumbfounded. He pointed out several new targets in succession, each with a lower hit rate than the last. Yet, Madelyn seemed unfazed, astonishingly hitting each one.

Shock overwhelmed Adelar.

This womanโ€™s got some skills! Such precise marksmanship isn't something just anyone has. Plus, sheโ€™s just an incompetent rich lady. For a woman like her to achieve such a level, sheโ€™s clearly exceptionally gifted in this area.

Grimo watched Madelyn from the side, his interest in her deepening. Feeling there was no need for further training, he raised his hand. โ€œThatโ€™s enough.โ€

Then, he turned to Madelyn, his smile devilishly charming. โ€œWho wouldโ€™ve thought that youโ€™re so full of surprises? But since youโ€™ve got this level of skill, join us tonight. I hope you wonโ€™t disappoint me.โ€
