Chapter 306: What Kind of Monster Is She?

A coincidence. Hayden sneered, dismissing Josiahโ€™s success as mere luck. He didn't mind it much.

In the second round, Hayden hit the bullseye. Confidently, he blew the smoke off the gun barrel, looking incredibly smug. Clearly, Hayden was quite pleased with his marksmanship.

At that moment, following a resounding gunshot, Josiah also scored a bullseye. โ€œWow!โ€ The crowd was surprised; no one expected Josiah to be so accurate. Hayden wore an expression of disbelief. How could this be possible? Could Josiah be cheating?

Irritated, Hayden gritted his teeth, raised his hand, aimed at the target, and pulled the trigger. He hit the bullseye again. Everyone on the scene praised him.

Right after, Josiah expressionlessly pulled the trigger, landing his shot in the dead center. The uproar at the scene immediately grew louder. If Josiahโ€™s first shot was a fluke, and his second due to luck, then what about his third? Clearly, Josiah was skilled.

Hayden was in utter disbelief. What was going on? Even if Josiah was incredibly lucky, there was no way he could hit the bullseye twice in a row! Could he actually be adept at shooting? Impossible! He refused to believe a good-for-nothing like him was a better marksman than him! Maybe there was an issue with his gun.

When his train of thought ended, Hayden immediately said, โ€œJosiah, to ensure thereโ€™s no cheating, how about we swap guns?โ€

Upon hearing that, Madelyn and Josiah sneered. The guns were presented to the two men in front of everyone. There was no chance of cheating, but since Hayden insisted on being difficult, the duo decided to comply to leave no doubts.

Madelyn nodded, and Josiah obeyed, promptly stepping forward and swapping guns with Hayden. After obtaining the gun, Hayden grinned slyly. Without delay, he aimed at the target and fired. The bullet hit dead center.

To Haydenโ€™s surprise, even after changing guns, Josiah still hit the bullseye! Upon seeing this, Hayden angrily demanded, โ€œAgain!โ€

In the fifth round, Hayden hit the bullseye, and so did Josiah.

Come the seventh round, Haydenโ€™s shot landed on the eighth ring while Josiahโ€™s was on the ninth. Everyone was speechless. They didnโ€™t expect Josiahโ€™s marksmanship to be so precise that even Hayden was gradually losing!

Haydenโ€™s scowl twisted as he roared in his mind like a madman. Impossible! This canโ€™t be! How could Josiah be this proficient with a firearm? Heโ€™s definitely cheating!

Enraged, he approached Josiah and provoked, โ€œJosiah, itโ€™s too dark right now, and I canโ€™t see clearly. Itโ€™s difficult to tell whoโ€™s more skilled. How about we compete blindfolded? Dare to accept my challenge?โ€

What? The crowd doubted their own ears for a moment. Even with their eyes wide open, Josiah and Hayden couldnโ€™t always hit the target accurately. Yet, Hayden proposed they do so blindfolded. That twist of events was very thrilling to the crowd.

Unexpectedly, Josiah lifted his chin pridefully. โ€œSure. Iโ€™m not afraid.โ€ He spoke arrogantly, as though he didnโ€™t even view Hayden as a threat.

โ€œReally?โ€ Hayden replied scornfully, gritting his teeth. โ€œIn that case, letโ€™s give it a shot! Just donโ€™t accuse me of bullying you later.โ€

Following that, they closed their eyes and pulled the trigger. Two gunshots echoed in the air. Josiah hit the bullseye while Haydenโ€™s shot landed two rings away on the eighth.

Once again, two gunshots reverberated in the night. Josiahโ€™s bullet struck right outside the bullseye, while Haydenโ€™s shot landed on the seventh ring. Everyone was riled up and taken aback by the outcome. They didnโ€™t expect Josiah, known to be a good-for-nothing, to be that accurate.

Hayden had been holding back his fury, but he couldnโ€™t anymore and roared, โ€œImpossible! This is utterly impossible! Josiah, you couldnโ€™t have cheated, could you?โ€

โ€œHayden, stop making a fool of yourself,โ€ Madelyn immediately retorted. โ€œWeโ€™re surrounded by people. Where would Josiah even get the chance to cheat? Youโ€™re just making excuses for your subpar skill!โ€

โ€œHayden, youโ€™re a major now, arenโ€™t you? You should understand that you win some and lose some. Whatโ€™s the matter? You canโ€™t accept your defeat?โ€ Xander spoke up.

โ€œThe crowd is not blind, Hayden. If you insist on accusing Josiah of cheating, arenโ€™t you essentially saying that everyoneโ€™s eyes are faulty?โ€ Mason also stepped forward.

Immediately, both parties found themselves in a standoff, tensions rising. Gradually, even the crowd began to lean toward Josiah, thinking that he might actually be quite capable.

Madelyn was pleased with the situation and proudly said, โ€œHayden, Josiah has already proven himself through his abilities. Do you still consider him worthless now?โ€

Without a doubt, that statement was a slap in the face for Hayden. Hayden was left speechless, grimacing.

Madelyn beamed, but she felt that wasn't thrilling enough. Therefore, she stood up and said, โ€œIf you all donโ€™t mind, Iโ€™d like to give this gun a try.โ€

After she finished speaking, she picked up an air gun, raised her hand, aimed at the target, and pulled the trigger. As she fired each round, she muttered, โ€œFirst ring, second ring, third ringโ€ฆโ€

The crowd was terrified because every time Madelyn stated the ring number, a bullet hole appeared on the corresponding ring of the target. When the count reached ten, her shot landed on the bullseye. As if measured with precision, the bullet holes were nearly aligned in their respective rings, forming a straight, precise line from the outermost ring to the bullseye.

The crowd gasped, wondering what kind of monster Madelyn was to land ten accurate shots consecutively. Hayden paled.

Madelyn, however, merely responded with a casual smile. โ€œForgive me if I embarrassed myself. I merely wanted everyone to know my marksmanship is thanks to the lessons provided by Josiah, the one everyone called a good-for-nothing. Frankly, I was really upset when I heard everyone labeling my friend as a good-for-nothing. Sure, he had no professional training, but his natural talent and abilities outshine everyone present here! I believe thatโ€™s now obvious to all present. Hence, I sincerely hope everyone can hold their tongues and stop calling my friend a good-for-nothing. Thank you, everyone.โ€

After finishing her words, Madelyn bowed deeply.
