Chapter 307: Are You Jealous?
Everyone finally believed Josiah was not a good-for-nothing. In reality, he was the Blume family's most gifted descendant! Felix, Mary, and Benedict were overjoyed. The turn of events left them reeling; no one anticipated such an outcome.
Madelyn felt thrilled. Hayden's earlier gloating now seemed foolish. This would be a real sting for him! Josiah then surprised everyone. He knelt before his grandparents and parents, bowing sincerelyโa stark contrast to his usual aloofness.
โGrandpa, Mom, Dad,โ he said, โmy immaturity has caused you much trouble. Iโm truly sorry. Iโve been reflecting on my actions, and I hope you can forgive me. Iโve decided to join the military.โ
The Blume family was stunned. Benedict and Mary were particularly surprised, barely concealing their joy. "Josiah, do you truly mean it?" they asked.
"Yes," Josiah replied seriously.
Felix, initially stunned, burst into laughter, overwhelmed with joy. "Good! Very good! The best birthday gift I've received!" Over the years, Josiah had been Felix's most cherished grandson, yet he had always disappointed him. Despite Felix's encouragement, Josiah had refused to join the military. Felix had almost given up. Josiah's decision was a complete surpriseโlike winning the lottery.
Benedict and Mary were ecstatic. "Finally, our son has come to his senses! It's never too late to change!"
Mason and Xander exchanged knowing glances, turning toward Madelyn. They silently praised her. She was incredible! If not for her, Josiah wouldn't have joined the military. However, they sighed as Madelyn rejoined Sebastian; the couple looked perfectly matched.
"We almost kidnapped her to bring her back for Josiah to marry," Xander regretted.
Mason chuckled, more optimistic. "It's fate. Josiah is fortunate to have met her. Whether they can be together is up to destiny."
Xander sighed. "Nothing can be done."
Hayden's scowl, clenched fists, and bulging veins betrayed his wrath.
At eleven, the banquet concluded. Guests dispersed, including Madelyn, Sebastian, and Jillian.
"Ms. Thornton, please wait a moment," a kind, aged voice called.
Madelyn turned to see Felix, supported by Benedict and Mary. "Grandpa, what's the matter?" Madelyn asked warmly.
Felix smiled kindly. "Madelyn, I wanted to thank you. Josiah's realization is largely due to your guidance."
Madelyn waved her hand, smiling casually. "Old Mr. Blume, you shouldn't say that. Josiah and I are friends. We help each other. Besides, seeing him improve brings me joy."
"You have a kind heart," Felix complimented. "You've been gracious to Josiah. You're always welcome at the Blume residence."
Benedict smiled. "Ms. Thornton, feel free to approach the Blume family for help. We'll assist you."
Mary tenderly took Madelyn's hand. "Ms. Thornton, I've taken a liking to you. Thank you for helping Josiah. He's lucky to have you as a friend."
Madelyn, flattered, laughed awkwardly. After pleasantries, she said farewell.
On the way back, Madelyn slumped in the car seat, exhausted but relaxed. She noticed an unusual silence. Sebastian hadn't spoken. His expression was unreadable, but Madelyn sensed his unhappiness. "Sebastian, what's wrong?" she asked softly.
He didn't respond. "Sebastianโฆ" Madelyn said, uneasy.
"Are you close with Josiah?" Sebastian asked abruptly and coldly. Madelyn was taken aback.
"Why are you so selflessly helping him? Do you care about him that much?" he asked, displeasure evident.
Madelyn, initially upset, laughed. "Sebastian, are you jealous?"
Sebastian frowned. Madelyn quickly clarified, "No, you mustn't overthink this. Josiah is a decent guy, and he's helped me. I aided him because I didn't want to see someone with his abilities waste away. He'll do well in the military. We've formed a connection, which isn't bad, is it?"
Madelyn gazed at Sebastian, anticipating his anger. Her clear, luminous eyes seemed fairy-like. Seeing her innocent, Sebastian couldn't stay angry.
He warned resignedly, "You have Lockhart Group. No need to build so many connections. Keep your distance from other men in the future, otherwiseโฆ"
