Chapter 312: Thoroughly Enjoy This
Wesley hung up the phone, a look of disappointment etched on his face. He remembered his first encounter with Harriet at Sebastian's fourteenth birthday party. That day, Harriet, the daughter of a senior company veteran, attended the banquet at Lockhart Manor for the first time. Wesley was immediately captivated by her pure and charming eyes. During the party, Harriet unexpectedly fell into the swimming pool. Wesley wanted to save her, but Sebastian rescued her first. From that point on, Harriet only had eyes for Sebastian, never glancing at Wesley again. She never realized that, while she was captivated by Sebastian, Wesley felt the same about her.
Wesley sighed inwardly. As he was deep in thought, the office door opened. Madelyn and Sebastian emerged, preparing to leave. "Sebastian, are you up for a drink?" Wesley called out suddenly.
Madelyn and Sebastian were surprised. They noticed the loneliness in Wesley's expression. Madelyn chuckled and teased, "What's the matter? Heartbroken and trying to drown your sorrows in alcohol?"
Wesley lost his temper. "Madelyn, no one would mistake you for a mute if you kept quiet."
"My mouth is my own," Madelyn scoffed. "I'll speak if I want to. It's none of your business. Besides, I'm just speaking the truth. You're too scared to admit it. You won't fight for your happiness, and you think insulting me will make you feel better?"
"You!" Wesley was infuriated.
Seeing the argument escalate, Sebastian intervened. "Wesley, why don't you head to the bar first? I'll accompany Madelyn home and then join you there."
Wesley relented, shooting Madelyn a cold glance before leaving. "I was telling the truth," Madelyn said, sticking out her tongue.
Sebastian escorted Madelyn back to Lockhart Villa, then went to the bar. Madelyn went to bed early after a quick wash.
Chapter 312: Thoroughly Enjoy This (Continued)
During breakfast, an aggressive doorbell ringing startled them. Madelyn answered to find Malcolm supporting a thoroughly intoxicated Sebastian.
"Mrs. Lockhart," Malcolm explained, settling Sebastian on the couch, "Mr. Lockhart had a bit too much to drink with Mr. Gilbert at the bar yesterday. I brought him home."
Madelyn was speechless. "Just how much did he drink?"
"I'm not sure," Malcolm replied, "but Mr. Lockhart has always been a good drinker, so I guess quite a few."
Madelyn nodded. "Okay, thank you. You can go back to work now." Malcolm left.
Madelyn looked at Sebastian with sympathy, feeling utterly helpless. She inwardly cursed Wesley. That bastard! He encouraged Sebastian to drink so much.
Madelyn instructed Lydia to prepare a hangover remedy. She helped Sebastian to bed, removing his overcoat and shoes. After Sebastian drank the remedy, he fell into a deep sleep. Madelyn sighed with relief and left for school.
There was one class that morning, followed by two in the afternoon. After her classes, Madelyn planned to go home and check on Sebastian. However, a group of imposing, burly men blocked her way outside the school gate.
Madelyn's heart trembled. She stepped back and demanded, "Who are you?"
The leader, Eric York, bluntly asked, "Was it you who hit my sister?"
"Your sister?" Madelyn asked, bewildered. "Who's your sister?"
"You'll see," York said. "Guys, take her away!"
Several men seized Madelyn and escorted her to a damp alleyway. "Lindsay?" Madelyn frowned upon seeing her. She knew Lindsay wouldn't let things go easily, but she hadn't expected such swift retaliation. Madelyn regretted her carelessness.
Madelyn let out a cold huff. "You've forgotten. No matter. I remember it all too well. Twelve slaps in total, plus that one on me. Today, I'll repay the harm you've done to me tenfold. Eric, help me grabโ" Lindsay's expression was chillingly fierce.
A chill ran through Madelyn's heart. The wound on her hand hadn't healed, and now she was in this predicament. How could she fend off so many brutes by herself? Even Lindsayโs martial arts skills surpassed hers, let alone these men. Madelyn feared she would be beaten.
Several burly men pinned Madelyn's arms. She struggled, but her strength was useless. Lindsay smiled radiantly and walked toward Madelyn. Raising her hand, she laughed, "I hope you'll thoroughly enjoy this!"
A horrifying shriek echoed. Madelyn shut her eyes, bracing for a slap, but it never came. She opened her eyes to find several men in black had appeared, sending Lindsay flying with a single kick.
"How dare you hit my sister?" Eric raged. "Get them! We must teach this woman a lesson!"
The burly men charged, clashing with the men in black. Eric lunged for Madelyn, his face contorted with malice. But a man in black swiftly kicked Eric to the ground. The other burly men were also quickly subdued.
Eric cursed inwardly. F*ck! He never expected this woman to be so formidable.
