Chapter 37: Destined to Be a Bimbo
Early in the morning, a throng of students gathered in front of the schoolโs bulletin board. The place bustled with activity. The scene was total chaos, with everyone shoving each other. No one wanted to be left behind, craning their necks in anticipation. Their faces bore the look of those keen on a spectacle.
At that time, Madelynโs thesis score had already been posted. She didnโt just fail her thesis; she set a new record for the lowest score in the history of the Department of Finance. The content of the thesis was openly displayed, available for the entire school to read.
At that moment, a student scoffed dismissively, expressing disdain. โI knew it. How could someone like Madelyn, whoโs just a pretty face, possibly write a good thesis!โ
โIndeed, all that glitters is not gold!โ
The classmates nearby shook their heads in disdain, sparking a flurry of discussion upon seeing her thesis.
โMadelyn really had no shame. It was one thing to hire a ghostwriter and deny it, but how did she have the audacity to publicly claim her innocence? Ha, isnโt she just shooting herself in the foot?โ
โSeriously, she wrote such a thesis and still dares to claim she didnโt hire a ghostwriter? Who would believe that?โ
The scene was instantly filled with uproar. Some people even took out their phones to snap pictures, simultaneously mocking, โWhat on earth is this? It looks like trash, doesnโt it?โ
โThe sentences arenโt even coherent; I bet even an elementary school student could write better than her.โ
โI really donโt know how she managed to get into our school with her level of competence.โ
โI really donโt understand why sheโs always so arrogant. Apart from being somewhat attractive, sheโs totally worthless in every other aspect.โ
โExactlyโฆโ
The sounds of mockery and derision filled the air. At that moment, Janessa and Felicity stood on the edge of the crowd, covering their mouths to hide their glee. Seeing everyoneโs poor impression of Madelyn, they naturally felt satisfied. Finally, they had taught Madelyn a lesson!
At that moment, Felicity suddenly asked, โBy the way, Janessa. Madelyn probably doesnโt know about this yet, right?โ
Thinking of that, Janessa smirked with a hint of malice. โShe didnโt come to school today, so sheโs definitely clueless. But donโt worry, Iโll make sure to share this delightful news with her,โ she assured.
Having said that, Janessa walked away from the crowd. After finding a quiet spot, Janessa made a phone call to Madelyn.
โMadelyn, where are you? Why didnโt you come to school today?โ At that moment, Janessaโs voice was so sweet, as if she had tasted honey.
Madelyn felt a wave of discomfort wash over her. She thought to herself, There she goes again, playing the saint.
She replied nonchalantly, โIโve been ill these past couple of days, so I am just resting at home.โ
Hearing that, Janessa immediately grew anxious. โSick? Madelyn, werenโt you perfectly fine yesterday? How did you fall ill so suddenly?โ
Despite everything, Janessa was still incredibly anxious. โAh, Madelyn, why didnโt you tell me you were sick? I am stillโฆ at school, worrying about you when you didnโt show up.โ
She is worried about me? Upon hearing these words, Madelyn could only laugh; it sounded utterly absurd. People who didnโt know any better might have genuinely believed that Janessa had a strong bond with her.
With this in mind, a smile tugged at the corners of Madelynโs mouth. She deliberately softened her voice and said, โI just have a bit of a fever. I didnโt tell you because I didnโt want you to worry.โ
โWhat nonsense are you talking about! Madelyn, weโre besties, so isnโt it natural for me to worry about you? Why are you being so formal with me? Donโt tell me you no longer consider me your good friend?โ Janessa suddenly expressed her annoyance.
Madelyn chuckled and rolled her eyes, yet she said, โHow could that be? Weโre besties forever, arenโt we?โ
At last, Janessa was satisfied and said, โAlright then, you wait at home. Iโm coming over to see you now.โ
โNo need, Iโm really fine.โ โ Madelyn immediately declined.
Janessa was relentless. โOh, I see how it is now. Madelyn, youโre intentionally growing distant with me, arenโt you? Let me tell you, if I donโt see you today, Iโll be very upset. Thatโs why I absolutely had to come this time!โ
After she finished speaking, Janessa didnโt even wait for Madelyn to respond before she promptly ended the call.
Darn! Did she do that on purpose? Madelyn stared at her phone, wondering what on earth was going on with Janessa.
Half an hour later, Janessa indeed arrived as expected. First, she politely knocked on the door. Upon hearing that, Lydia looked over and saw a girl she had never seen. She approached with a puzzled expression and asked, โWho are you?โ
Janessa couldnโt help but let out a charming laugh. โHello, Iโm a good friend of Madelyn.โ
As it turned out, she was her young mistressโs good friend! Lydia quickly responded with courtesy, โOh, please come in then!โ
Janessa made her way into the Lockhart familyโs living room, but, surprisingly, she didnโt hurry upstairs right away. Instead, she glanced back at Lydia and asked politely and cautiously, โExcuse me, is Sebastian around?โ
After some thought, Lydia answered truthfully, โHeโs not here.โ Inwardly, she was wary and wondered, Is this girl here to see Mrs. Lockhart or Mr. Lockhart?
Upon hearing that Sebastian wasnโt around, Janessa immediately broke into a smile. โGreat, thank you,โ she said. Then, she strode off upstairs.
As she walked, she couldnโt help but feel elated. Under normal circumstances, Sebastian would undoubtedly take care of her since she was not well. But today, Sebastian was nowhere to be found. It seemed like he must have been disappointed with Madelyn!
Upon thinking of this, Janessa was overjoyed. Following that, Janessa found her way to Madelynโs room. Madelyn was lying in bed reading a magazine when Janessa walked in. Her sudden appearance gave her a shock.
โMadelyn, are you okay? I was so worried about you. Youโre really too much. You fell ill and didnโt even let me know.โ As soon as Janessa appeared, she began to express her concern.
At this moment, Madelynโs face was pale, and seeing Janessa only made her head throb with pain.
But given how insincere Janessa was, she couldnโt just not play along. So, she responded with a similarly forced smile.
โIโm fine. I just caught a fever in the middle of the night because I was caught in the rain yesterday. Iโm feeling much better now, so thereโs no need to worry.โ
Janessa nodded. Initially, she had thought that Madelyn was merely pretending to be sick, but it turned out to be true. However, Janessa hadnโt forgotten the real reason why she came.
Suddenly, the conversation took a turn, and she said, โBy the way, Madelyn, your thesis grade is out.โ
โOh, right!โ With that said, Madelyn suddenly remembered. Indeed, today was the day the result was to be announced.
โHow did I do?โ Madelyn asked curiously. She was brimming with confidence, believing that the effort she put into her thesis would surely fetch her a decent score.
However, Janessa displayed an expression that spoke volumes of her difficulty in finding the right words. โAh, Madelyn,โ she sighed, โI canโt bring myself to say it. You might want to check the school forum yourself.โ
Upon seeing the expression on Janessaโs face, a sense of inexplicable foreboding filled Madelynโs heart. So, she quickly took out her phone and logged into the school forum. Upon opening it, it felt as though she was struck by a bolt! Within the forum, posts ridiculing her filled every corner, besides an endless stream of obscene and vulgar comments. The comment section had turned into a disaster zone, with countless people voicing their complaints nonstop.
