Chapter 45: A Heavy Slap
The mere thought of Janessa, unscathed and well, made Madelyn irritated. No! It was Janessa who started all of this. She has to pay the price for it too!
Madelyn composed herself, then suddenly strode off, returning to the classroom in a rush. It was almost time for class to start. The classroom was filled with many students, and among them was Janessa.
Madelyn’s face hardened as she headed straight toward Janessa. Without hesitation, she raised her hand and landed a slap with all her strength. One was to vent her frustration; the other was to make Janessa experience pain. However, this slap left everyone utterly dumbfounded.
The once noisy classroom fell silent in an instant. Everyone was puzzled, not understanding why Madelyn had suddenly resorted to violence. Having been slapped for no reason, Janessa grimaced. Has she lost her mind?
Just as she was about to ask what was happening, Madelyn beat her to it, launching into a furious tirade against her.
“Janessa, I can’t believe it. All this time, I’ve considered you my closest friend. I didn’t expect that you would actually backstab me!”
Surrounded by a crowd of onlookers, Janessa had no choice but to feign innocence. “Madelyn, what are you doing? What did I do!”
“Quit the act. Didn’t you send Felicity to steal my thesis and then secretly switch it out? After all this time together, I can’t believe you turned out to be such a vile woman! Thankfully, everything was captured on surveillance. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to clear my name.”
Janessa could roughly guess what was going on, and a heavy feeling immediately settled in her heart. She immediately defended herself in a fluster, “Madelyn, you’ve misunderstood me. I’ve never done such a thing.”
Madelyn couldn’t help but let out a cold chuckle. “Haven’t you had enough? Stop lying! Felicity has already confessed everything in the office just now! She said you were the one pulling the strings, Janessa. What else do you have to say for yourself? I guess I really underestimated you, huh? On the surface, you act as if you’re my closest friend, but behind my back, you’re capable of such treacherous acts! You caused me to be slandered and ridiculed by everyone, then had the audacity to offer me your insincere comfort afterward. Janessa, how could you be so repulsive?”
By saying that, Madelyn was also chastising Janessa on behalf of her past self. In her past life, she had placed such immense trust in Janessa, only to be manipulated and deceived by her. In this life, she would never let that happen again.
At that moment, the surrounding classmates instantly burst into a flurry of discussions.
“Do you guys think the thesis on the bulletin board was really written by Madelyn?”
“From what Madelyn seemed to be implying, it appeared that she had been plotted against. And even more shockingly, the perpetrator was Jaitessa, her very own best friend!”
“No way, is that really true?”
“But they normally get along so well.”
Someone voiced their belief, saying, “I don’t find it unbelievable. I’ve always thought that Janessa was insincere. All that innocence and kindness is just an act.”
Of course, there were also those who didn’t believe it. “That can’t be, right? Janessa is usually so easy to get along with. She’s smart and unpretentious. She doesn’t seem like the type to stab someone in the back!”
