Chapter 77 Waiting For The Show
Caught off guard, the guys cried out in pain. When they lifted their gaze, they saw Madelyn hitting them frenziedly with a stick. Just as she had hit one person, she swiftly turned to deal with the other. If anyone dared to so much as lift their heads, Madelyn would whack them without hesitation.
Her attacks were swift and mighty, and she was even fiercer than any young man. The guys couldnโt defend themselves in time and hugged their heads instead.
โStop hitting me!โ
โMaโam, please stop hitting us! We were wrong. We wonโt dare to do it again!โ
None of the guys dared to lift their heads and could only beg for mercy loudly. Madelyn scoffed, continuing her assail.
โInstead of learning to do better, you jerks only know how to bully women. How can you call yourselves men? If I donโt teach you all a lesson today, youโll think you can push Jillian around however you please!โ Upon ending her sentence, Madelyn unleashed a flurry of blows with her stick.
Just moments ago, Jillian was so frightened that she cried. At that moment, she was dumbfounded. After all, on most days, Madelyn appeared frail and distinguished, worthy of being called a goddess. Yet, when she fought, she was so fierce that a few young men stood no chance against her.
โMaโam, we truly realize our mistakes now. We beg you, please stop. It hurtsโฆโ In no time, the guys were whimpering, begging for mercy.
Madelyn, however, didnโt show any leniency. โOnly now you realize your mistakes? Who was acting with impunity earlier and said they have lots of money, huh? So what if youโre rich? Does wealth give you the right to bully others? Did none of your mothers teach you how to behave?โ
Still furious, she unleashed another round of relentless beating. Witnessing the scene before her, Jillian felt extremely touched. Apart from Madelyn, there was no one else who would treat her that well.
At that moment, a series of faint sounds suddenly echoed from not too far away. After listening closely, Jillian heard people speaking along with the sound of numerous footsteps.
โMadelyn, it seems like we have company!โ Jillian suddenly became alert, voicing out anxiously.
Upon hearing that, Madelyn couldnโt help but pause for a moment. The sound of numerous footsteps was drawing closer and closer.
I mustnโt be noticed by them. Otherwise, I wonโt be able to explain myself! Upon thinking of that, Madelyn dropped the stick and hastily grabbed Jillianโs hand. โTheyโre coming. Quickly, follow me!โ
Dazed, Jillian was hauled up from the ground by Madelyn. Then, the two of them recklessly charged forward like deer being chased by a hunter. The ground was littered with deadwood, making the two of them stumble and fumble as they ran. It was a challenging terrain to navigate through. Throughout their journey, they either stumbled on rocks or scraped their skin, but they never once stopped.
Not long after the duo had left, those eager to watch a spectacle reached their destination en masse, their arrival as grand and tumultuous as a large procession. The scene was buzzing with excitement as everyone was a little thrilled, anticipating a great show. When they did arrive, all the crowd saw were a few guys, who were all bruised, sitting pathetically on the ground, crying out in pain. There was no sign of Jillian anywhere there.
โIsnโt Jillian said to be here? Where is she?โ
โYeah! Iโm still waiting for the show!โ
โDidnโt that guy earlier say he saw Jillian being brought here?โ
โWhere is she?โ
The crowd made a ruckus when they didnโt see Jillian, causing the scene to descend into chaos. They scanned the whole grove and saw no traces of Jillian.
At that moment, Janessa observed everything with a grimace among the crowd. Whereโs Jillian? Why isnโt she here? Donโt tell me these guys on the ground couldnโt stop Jillian from slipping away.
When her train of thought ended there, Janessa couldnโt help but glare resentfully at the guys on the ground. Theyโre men, yet they couldnโt even trap a single woman! Useless!
โHey, you lot. What happened earlier?โ Since the crowd couldnโt locate their target, they turned their attention to the group of guys.
โYeah! Wasnโt it said that you guys brought Jillian over here? Where is she?โ
โIndeed. Where is she? You guys should know the situation best, right?โ
For a moment, everyoneโs attention was focused on those few guys, bombarding them with questions. Those guys were severely beaten after committing a misdeed, so they were already frustrated. To their surprise a crowd suddenly arrived so they were a little afraid.
Meanwhile, Madelyn, gripping Jillianโs hand, kept on sprinting. In no time, they found the exit on the other side of the grove. The two quickly found a safe spot and hid themselves. Once they were certain they wouldnโt be pursued, they finally halted, panting heavily.
After her breathing had steadied, Jillian turned to Madelyn, asking. โMadelyn, why did you show up there earlier?โ
Madelyn took a deep breath, maintaining her cool as she spoke. โSomeone came to the classroom and said you were dragged into the grove. When I heard that, I ran to rescue you.โ
Then, she sighed in relief. โI will say that was a really close call. If I had arrived a little later, who knows what could have happened to you? By then, our classmates wouldโve arrived to stare at you. If that happened, you can forget about maintaining your standing on campus.โ
Upon hearing those words, Jillian fell into silence, paling. Madelynโs right. If she hadnโt saved me earlier, those guys wouldโve sexually assaulted me! Nothing was more important than purity for a young woman. If her innocence were lost, Jillian wouldnโt have had the courage to continue living.
At that moment, Madelyn noticed Jillianโs pale complexion, realizing the latter must have been somewhat frightened. Quickly, she consoled, โItโs all right now. We managed to escape! It was a close call, but we made it. Letโs not dwell on this anymore.โ
Jillian shook her head, her eyes reddening with fear. โMadelyn, youโre right. If it hadnโt been for your timely rescue, I might haveโฆ I might haveโฆ I might have been ruined by those beasts. If things had turned out like that, I wouldnโt have been able to go on. My father is in prison, and my younger brother is a disappointment, so my mother has only me to place her hopes on. I, Iโฆ Madelyn, I donโt even know how to thank you.โ
Jillian started to ramble near the end, but one thing was clearโshe was immensely grateful for Madelyn. Seeing Jillianโs tearful look, Madelyn casually chuckled.
โJillian, no need to thank me. Youโve helped me a lot, too. Weโre friends. Thereโs no need to be so formal.โ
After saying that, Jillian was deeply moved and nodded vigorously. Madelyn chuckled. โAll right, we should head back to the classroom now. The classes are almost over. Letโs go grab something to eat together.โ
Jillian nodded in agreement, and then the two of them headed back together.
