Chapter 92: Settle the Debt

Upon hearing this, Ivy couldnโ€™t help but be surprised.

โ€œInvestigate someone! Who do you want to investigate?โ€

Madelyn replied, โ€œI want to investigate Ruth Pierson, the head professor of our campus Department of Finance.โ€

Ivy nodded and looked a bit curious. โ€œNo problem with that, but why do you want to investigate her?โ€

Madelyn couldnโ€™t help but sneer.

Why investigate her? She brought it upon herself.

Initially, Madelyn had no intention of causing trouble for Ruth, but this time, Ruth had gone too far!

Madelyn recalled the things Ruth had done in her past life.

She hadnโ€™t paid much attention then, but now she realized just how malicious Ruth had been.

In her past life, Ruth liked to abuse her power and was harsh on students.

She acted thoughtlessly, wrongfully accusing numerous students.

Several students were unfairly treated and suffered grievances. Some were even driven to despair, resulting in their deaths.

These students had one thing in commonโ€”they came from ordinary backgrounds.

They had struggled to get into a good university only to be driven to their deaths by Ruth.

Their families, lacking influence, couldnโ€™t get justice, and the cases were left unresolved.

It wasnโ€™t until the last student who suffered had a somewhat powerful family.

When the child couldnโ€™t bear it anymore and took their own life, the family refused to let it go and exposed Ruthโ€™s crimes.

This revealed to everyone that Ruth not only abused her power but also had an extremely corrupt personal life.

How could such a woman be an educator? It was an insult to the teaching profession.

This was why Madelyn sought Ivyโ€™s help to investigate.

She briefly explained the situation to Ivy, from the initial wrongful accusation against Jillian to Ruthโ€™s unjust behavior, and finally, how Jillian became the target of public criticism and expelled from campus.

Upon hearing this, Ivy couldnโ€™t control her anger. โ€œHow could such an educator exist? She isnโ€™t professional.โ€

Madelyn sought Ivyโ€™s help because she knew Ivy had extensive connections from her long career in journalism.

Ivy also had a team of excellent reporters who had covered various government stories and earned the governmentโ€™s trust.

Madelyn knew they would know the best way to expose the news effectively.

With this in mind, Madelyn looked at Ivy imploringly. โ€œFor Jillian and the other students at our school, we canโ€™t let this go on! If possible, please make as much noise about this as you can, okay?โ€

Ivy nodded resolutely.

โ€œSuch an educator is a scourge to society. If Iโ€™d known earlier, I would have exposed her without you telling me.โ€

She patted her chest. โ€œMadelyn, donโ€™t worry. Leave this to me, and Iโ€™ll handle it beautifully.โ€

Hearing this, Madelyn felt relieved.

โ€œThank you so much, Ivy. Youโ€™re the best.โ€

โ€œNo problem.โ€

After leaving the media agency, Madelyn felt somewhat reassured.

She knew that Ivyโ€™s competence was guaranteed since she had made it to the position of chief editor.

If Ruthโ€™s background was really that dirty, no one could save her this time.

Ruth would have to fend for herself.

Madelyn suddenly thought of checking on Jillian.

Despite everything, she was still worried about Jillian.

Their family was already in a tough situation, and now with this added trouble, they must be going through a hard time.

Thinking of this, Madelyn changed her route and headed to Jillianโ€™s house.

She had never been to Jillianโ€™s home, only knowing that Jillian mentioned living in the old city district.

Madelyn had never been to the old city district and had no idea what it was like.

It wasnโ€™t until she got out of the car that she felt a wave of oppression wash over her.

Could people really live in such an environment?

The area looked like a wasteland with dilapidated buildings everywhere.

There were puddles all around, even though it was sunny.

A stray dog occasionally ran by, its fur filthy and matted, limping with a large bloodstain on its forehead.

The air had a nauseating stench.

Covering her chest, Madelyn found it hard to believe that someone as clean and refined as Jillian had lived in such an environment for so many years.

She started checking house numbers, looking for Jillianโ€™s home.

Passersby gave her strange looks, as if she didnโ€™t belong there.

As she finished checking one house number, a loud crash broke the silence of the alley, startling her.

It sounded like pots and pans falling to the ground, followed by a manโ€™s angry shouts.

โ€œYou b*tch! Whereโ€™s my money? Where is it? If you donโ€™t pay up, Iโ€™ll tear your house down!โ€

From the sound of it, a few thugs were collecting debts.

A woman cried out, โ€œPlease, sir, we really have no money. Even if you tear the house down, I canโ€™t make money appear!โ€

The voice sounded familiar to Madelyn.

Suddenly, another shrill scream echoed, โ€œAh!โ€

โ€œJillian? Jillian! Donโ€™t touch my daughter. Sheโ€™s innocent!โ€

A few men roughly grabbed Jillian by the hair and yelled, โ€œYou old hag, get out of the way. Iโ€™m telling you, if your family doesnโ€™t pay back the money that brat owes us, weโ€™ll take your daughter as collateral!โ€

Fiona immediately rushed forward, crying as she shielded Jillian. โ€œSir, you know our situation. Iโ€™m just a waste collector trying to support two kids in school. We donโ€™t have money right now!โ€

The thugs shouted back, โ€œSo, you have no money? Fine, then your daughter is coming with us!โ€

They began to drag Jillian away.

โ€œNo! No! No!โ€

Fiona panicked and cried out, โ€œWe have mo
