Chapter 92: Settle the Debt
Upon hearing this, Ivy couldnโt help but be surprised.
โInvestigate someone! Who do you want to investigate?โ
Madelyn replied, โI want to investigate Ruth Pierson, the head professor of our campus Department of Finance.โ
Ivy nodded and looked a bit curious. โNo problem with that, but why do you want to investigate her?โ
Madelyn couldnโt help but sneer.
Why investigate her? She brought it upon herself.
Initially, Madelyn had no intention of causing trouble for Ruth, but this time, Ruth had gone too far!
Madelyn recalled the things Ruth had done in her past life.
She hadnโt paid much attention then, but now she realized just how malicious Ruth had been.
In her past life, Ruth liked to abuse her power and was harsh on students.
She acted thoughtlessly, wrongfully accusing numerous students.
Several students were unfairly treated and suffered grievances. Some were even driven to despair, resulting in their deaths.
These students had one thing in commonโthey came from ordinary backgrounds.
They had struggled to get into a good university only to be driven to their deaths by Ruth.
Their families, lacking influence, couldnโt get justice, and the cases were left unresolved.
It wasnโt until the last student who suffered had a somewhat powerful family.
When the child couldnโt bear it anymore and took their own life, the family refused to let it go and exposed Ruthโs crimes.
This revealed to everyone that Ruth not only abused her power but also had an extremely corrupt personal life.
How could such a woman be an educator? It was an insult to the teaching profession.
This was why Madelyn sought Ivyโs help to investigate.
She briefly explained the situation to Ivy, from the initial wrongful accusation against Jillian to Ruthโs unjust behavior, and finally, how Jillian became the target of public criticism and expelled from campus.
Upon hearing this, Ivy couldnโt control her anger. โHow could such an educator exist? She isnโt professional.โ
Madelyn sought Ivyโs help because she knew Ivy had extensive connections from her long career in journalism.
Ivy also had a team of excellent reporters who had covered various government stories and earned the governmentโs trust.
Madelyn knew they would know the best way to expose the news effectively.
With this in mind, Madelyn looked at Ivy imploringly. โFor Jillian and the other students at our school, we canโt let this go on! If possible, please make as much noise about this as you can, okay?โ
Ivy nodded resolutely.
โSuch an educator is a scourge to society. If Iโd known earlier, I would have exposed her without you telling me.โ
She patted her chest. โMadelyn, donโt worry. Leave this to me, and Iโll handle it beautifully.โ
Hearing this, Madelyn felt relieved.
โThank you so much, Ivy. Youโre the best.โ
โNo problem.โ
After leaving the media agency, Madelyn felt somewhat reassured.
She knew that Ivyโs competence was guaranteed since she had made it to the position of chief editor.
If Ruthโs background was really that dirty, no one could save her this time.
Ruth would have to fend for herself.
Madelyn suddenly thought of checking on Jillian.
Despite everything, she was still worried about Jillian.
Their family was already in a tough situation, and now with this added trouble, they must be going through a hard time.
Thinking of this, Madelyn changed her route and headed to Jillianโs house.
She had never been to Jillianโs home, only knowing that Jillian mentioned living in the old city district.
Madelyn had never been to the old city district and had no idea what it was like.
It wasnโt until she got out of the car that she felt a wave of oppression wash over her.
Could people really live in such an environment?
The area looked like a wasteland with dilapidated buildings everywhere.
There were puddles all around, even though it was sunny.
A stray dog occasionally ran by, its fur filthy and matted, limping with a large bloodstain on its forehead.
The air had a nauseating stench.
Covering her chest, Madelyn found it hard to believe that someone as clean and refined as Jillian had lived in such an environment for so many years.
She started checking house numbers, looking for Jillianโs home.
Passersby gave her strange looks, as if she didnโt belong there.
As she finished checking one house number, a loud crash broke the silence of the alley, startling her.
It sounded like pots and pans falling to the ground, followed by a manโs angry shouts.
โYou b*tch! Whereโs my money? Where is it? If you donโt pay up, Iโll tear your house down!โ
From the sound of it, a few thugs were collecting debts.
A woman cried out, โPlease, sir, we really have no money. Even if you tear the house down, I canโt make money appear!โ
The voice sounded familiar to Madelyn.
Suddenly, another shrill scream echoed, โAh!โ
โJillian? Jillian! Donโt touch my daughter. Sheโs innocent!โ
A few men roughly grabbed Jillian by the hair and yelled, โYou old hag, get out of the way. Iโm telling you, if your family doesnโt pay back the money that brat owes us, weโll take your daughter as collateral!โ
Fiona immediately rushed forward, crying as she shielded Jillian. โSir, you know our situation. Iโm just a waste collector trying to support two kids in school. We donโt have money right now!โ
The thugs shouted back, โSo, you have no money? Fine, then your daughter is coming with us!โ
They began to drag Jillian away.
โNo! No! No!โ
Fiona panicked and cried out, โWe have mo
