"Ah! Get away from me!" Felicia wiped the frame clean and returned the photograph to its place. Her gaze fixed on Kayla, her voice icy. "Do you even know how to spell 'conscience'? You harmed others, yet you want to brainwash people into sharing your guilt? Why should they?"
Kayla staggered backward, fear etched on her face as the chilling surroundings and the sight of Roberta's body weighed heavily upon her. "I'm not going to argue with you. Just wait, Felicia—one day, I'll crush you!" She turned and ran.
Felicia smirked, calling after her, "Kayla, when the clock strikes midnight, you better not be dreaming!" Kayla's steps faltered.
That night, Felicia remained in the quiet, secluded courtyard. Occasionally, a maid delivered something, but mostly she was alone. She sat in the center, surrounded by the square night sky, the hazy moonlight bathing her as memories of her past life mingled with this one. In her past life, Felicia had never known Roberta, meaning Roberta had been trapped in that village until sold and silenced. But in this life, Felicia had rescued her, only for Roberta to meet a tragic end nonetheless.
"What, then, is fate?" she whispered, closing her eyes. After a long moment, she opened them. "Defying fate was her fate."
The following day, at dawn, Clive's car arrived. Roberta was buried, laid to rest beside Eileen under Clive's arrangements, finally reunited with her mother. Rain fell for several days in Khogend.
Felicia remained at school, attending classes and putting people in their place. Sebastian visited several times. He told her that Myra, hardened by Kayla's actions, refused to see her again—a true expulsion. Even Dexter, enraged by Kayla's behavior, had cancelled her unlimited black card.
Sebastian offered this news with a touch of consolation. Felicia chuckled. "And then what? Mrs. Fuller should be softening up by now, right?"
Sebastian hesitated, his expression awkward. Despite Kayla's expulsion and Myra's initial disappointment, once Dexter's fury subsided, Myra softened. She arranged for Kayla's accommodation in an apartment under her name and provided two maids.
Sebastian attempted to intervene, but Myra retorted, "Do you want to see your sister starve or end up on the streets?"
Was this fair to Felicia? Consequently, Sebastian frequently visited Felicia at school, concerned about bullying and offering comfort. Felicia smiled faintly, as if expecting this.
He felt a pang of discomfort. "I thought with Mom's personality, she'd be more protective of you."
