Listen to this chapter:

After learning her biological daughter had been switched at birth, Myra had been consumed by worry, losing sleep while searching for Felicia. She had mobilized countless people and expended significant resources to find her. But upon finally locating Felicia, her intense concern gradually faded, replaced by dissatisfaction and annoyance.

"Do you know why that is, Sebastian?" Felicia blinked slowly, a hint of amusement in her voice. "Because people always dwell on what they can't have. At first, the worry is a lingering sense of injustice. But once resolved, it feels less significant. And then, when it's lost again, regret hits hard."

Sebastian shook his head. "Don't undervalue yourself. You're just as important to Mom and Dad. You can't dismiss their love because they've neglected you a few times."

"Is that so?" she replied with a smile. "Even a little can be enough in a world of plenty. The bird in the tree occupies only one branch. The mouse drinking from the river needs only a few mouthfuls."

To Myra and Dexter, Felicia was merely someone who could be placated with attention and money; familial love was absent. Felicia understood this perfectly. She didn't look down on herself, but on the Fuller family.

Before Sebastian could respond, Felicia interrupted, "I have to return these books to the library. See you later." She clutched her books and left.

Sebastian rubbed his temples, feeling helpless. Just as he was about to follow her, his phone buzzed—Myra was calling.

"Mom, what's up?"

"Sebastian, are you at your sister's school? Tell her tomorrow's the engagement banquet! She must be there and absolutely cannot be late!"

Sebastian was speechless. The bridge issue had been resolved. The Fullers had seized the opportunity to fund a new bridge with a billion-dollar donation, improving public opinion. Their PR team swiftly addressed subsequent engineering issues, and Dexter had apprehended the saboteur. The crisis was expertly handled, yet the Lawson marriage contract remained.

Matthew proved more troublesome than anticipated. Every negotiation attempt failed. Even when meeting him, requests to break off the engagement were met with excuses to maintain it. He made it clear the engagement would happen, forcibly if necessary.

With the banquet looming, Sebastian rubbed his temples in frustration. "Got it, Mom."

After hanging up, he found Felicia in the library. "I've arranged a car to take you out of Khogend. You can return later. How does that sound?" It was a desperate attempt to help his sister escape the impending marriage.

Felicia laughed. "Thanks for your concern, Sebastian, but this engagement isn't happening. And I have a patient to see tomorrow, so I can't leave."

Sebastian playfully tapped her head. "If you don't listen to me, what will you do if someone carries you off to the wedding?"

"I predict Mr. Lawson Senior's plans will fail. Trust me!" Felicia winked.

Sebastian sighed but respected her wishes. Before leaving, he asked, "Silly, the engagement banquet is tomorrow. Aren't you worried at all?"
