Abbie tilted her head back and smiled. "Jamie, I finally made it!"
In the top-floor room of Pristine Hall, silence reigned. Tension hung heavy, Stephan's presence creating an almost suffocating pressure. Finally, a subordinate ventured, "Mr. Russell, should we apprehend the individual who drugged you?"
"No need," Stephan replied, a casual smirk playing on his lips. His subordinate was startled. When had Mr. Russell ever been so lenient?
But the smirk vanished, replaced by a cold, menacing light that caused everyone to recoil. With chilling clarity, he said, "I'll handle it personally."
The door to the Fuller family home was kicked open; Felicia was gone. The classroom door at her school met the same fate; still no Felicia. A third bang echoed as her dorm room door swung openโempty. Stephan's expression darkened.
A subordinate defensively stated, "I searched thoroughly! This was the location, according to the records! Unless she can turn invisible, how could she vanish?"
Another possibility occurred to Stephan: Felicia had deliberately concealed herself, leaving just enough traces to mislead them. He found himself both amused and annoyed. "Wow," he thought, "you really have some skills up your sleeves, Felicia." Did she think she could escape so easily after plotting against him? He intended to find out.
Just as he was about to order a thorough search, a subordinate rushed over, phone in hand. "Mr. Russell, we've received news from Seldvale..."
After hearing the message, Stephan's expression grew serious. His gaze swept the modest apartment, lingering on remnants of Felicia's presenceโeven the potted cactus on the balcony. A gentle breeze stirred the wind chimes at the door. He picked up a pig-shaped pillow from Felicia's bed, squeezing its face and chuckling softly. "Consider yourself lucky. We'll settle this score another day! Let's go."
He led his men out. After they left, a girl with braided hair, dressed inconspicuously, sat on a nearby bench, quietly lowering a book. Behind her thick glasses, her eyes sparkled with cunning. It was Felicia, disguised.
She had anticipated Stephan's arrival, returning early to her dorm, visiting the Fuller family, and then cleverly disguising herself to create the illusion she was still there. She had pulled it off.
Felicia breathed a sigh of relief. The commotion before Stephan's departure suggested urgent matters. She hoped their next encounter would be delayed. Rubbing her neck, she confidently made her way back to her dorm.
