Felicia rushed closer, quickly recognizing the familiar license plate of the black luxury car precariously perched over the cliff's edge. It belonged to the Fuller family; Kayla must be inside.
Just then, she heard Kayla's terrified cry: "Arnie, help me! Save me!"
Arnold was equally panicked. He'd received news the previous night that Kayla had come to Alverton, filling him with annoyance. Already on a mission for Matthew, he'd been increasingly frustrated by Kayla's persistent presence, feeling she clung to him like an unwanted burden. He'd shown impatience during their phone call, prompting Kayla's uncontrollable tears. Irritated, he'd abruptly ended the conversation.
When dawn arrived with no update from Kayla, he'd inquired around the village, finding no one had seen her. Sensing something was wrong, he called again, only to learn of the accident. She was trapped in her car, teetering on the cliff.
Without delay, he contacted the rescue team. Meanwhile, villagers, noticing the stranded car, gathered to help, proposing a plan to stabilize the vehicle with rocks and then help the occupants escape.
Arnold, however, instinctively felt this was risky, fearing it could endanger Kayla. The rescue efforts stalled.
Upon arriving, Felicia overheard Arnold sharply rebuke a villager: "Can you guarantee the safety of those inside? Is this method risk-free? If not, we wait for the rescue team!"
The villager, an older man known for his kindness, felt embarrassed and flustered by Arnold's harshness.
Felicia stepped forward, a cold laugh escaping her lips. "Arnold, where are your manners?"
Arnold glared at her. Usually, he softened under her provocation, but his agitation prevented it this time.
Felicia pointed decisively. "Mr. Todd, use small rocks to brace the front of the car and place some in front of the tires."
Romeo immediately obeyed.
Arnold exploded, accusing Felicia: "Kayla's a Fuller! Are you trying to kill her?"
From inside, Kayla screamed, "Don't come over! Don't move! Don't move!"
As she shouted, the car swayed slightly but steadied as Romeo and others positioned the stones.
Felicia looked at Arnold with disbelief and annoyance, tilting her head sarcastically. "Do you see that, Mr. Lawson? It's solid ground. The car might slide, but it won't fall."
Indeed, the dense trees below would cushion any slip. It wasn't a cliff, but a gentle mountain slope.
Felicia opened the car door and pulled Kayla out, who fell to the ground, terrified. Instinctively, she clung to Arnold, who embraced her, gently patting her back. "It's okay. Don't worry."
After Kayla's rescue, Ruben Waters, the driver, emerged, his gaze toward Kayla revealing barely concealed resentment.
