Listen to this chapter:

Felicia approached Ruben and asked, "Ruben, what caused the accident? What happened?" Ruben, a dedicated and experienced driver for the Fuller family, was visibly shaken. The accident was unusual for him.

Recognizing Felicia, he replied, "Ms. Felicia, good morning. Yesterday, Ms. Kayla insisted I drive her to Alverton. I was unfamiliar with the road and mistakenly followed the navigation's incorrect route. Ms. Kayla became angry, and thenโ€ฆ" His voice trailed off.

Kayla's anger hadn't been contained to words; she had kicked his seat while he was driving on the winding mountain roads. Already fatigued and now distracted, he momentarily lost focus, causing the car to veer off the road and become lodged on the slope's edge. They felt precariously perched, too afraid to move, even when their phone fell. Only Arnold's call that morning triggered the car's audio system, allowing them to summon help.

Ruben's anger simmered. Had Kayla not distracted him, the accident wouldn't have happened. Trapped, she had lashed out, declaring him unfit to drive for the Fullers and vowing to end his career. His initial fury was tempered only by reason. He gripped the dashcam memory card tightly; it held evidence against Kayla should she push him too far.

Felicia didn't press further. With Kayla safe, the villagers dispersed, relieved. Felicia stopped Cody Gibbs, who was leaving after Arnold's earlier reprimand. "Mr. Gibbs, wait a moment."

She found Arnold embracing a weeping Kayla, comforting her as if they had survived a near-death experience. "Sorry to interrupt," Felicia said, her voice hesitant.

Arnold released Kayla. "What is it?"

Felicia's tone hardened. "You should apologize to Mr. Gibbs."

Cody, slightly uncomfortable, tugged at her sleeve. "Licia, let's let it goโ€ฆ"

But Felicia wouldn't. Thinking of her own daughter's age and how upset she would be if her father were treated similarly, she felt an apology was only fair. It wasn't excessive; it was simply reasonable.

Arnold, having regained his composure and recognizing the villagers' assistance, apologized. "I'm sorry, Mr. Gibbs. I was out of line earlier." Cody smiled warmly.

Satisfied, Felicia left with Cody and the others, climbing back into the truck as it headed towards Alverton.
