In the Union Clinic, Lewis reclined on the bed where he'd been brought earlier. His condition had improved; aside from a slight slur in his speech, he appeared far removed from the brink of death. After learning Felicia had saved him, he began, "Ms. Fuller, you're truly a miracle healer. To show my gratitude, I'll ensure the consultation fee this time isโ"
"Don't be so quick to celebrate," Felicia interrupted, glancing at Olivia before continuing. "Mr. Adler's sudden loss of consciousness, convulsions, and bitten tongue weren't due to illness. Someone placed a venomous creature inside him."
Lewis and Olivia stared, shocked. Could something so unbelievable be real? Was she lying? Felicia perceived their skepticism.
"Let me show you," she said. "Hold out your arm."
Lewis immediately extended his arm, rolling up his sleeve. Felicia picked up a silver needle, pricked his skin, and a small drop of blood appeared. Olivia leaned closerโand saw something wriggling beneath his pale skin.
"Ah!" Olivia gasped. "There's a bug in there!"
Felicia's eyes glinted. "That's the venomous creature. And not just any venomous creatureโit's a rare twin venomous creature."
Trembling, Lewis stammered, "Dr. Fuller, you have to help me get thisโฆ this twin whatever-it's-called out! What if it starts eating my flesh or drinking my blood? What if it gets into my stomach?"
The bug slithered toward the blood droplet and, with a quick sip, vanished. Olivia gasped, covering her mouth in horror. Lewis nearly fainted. This thing was going to kill him!
After imbibing the blood, the creature continued up his arm, disappearing near his heart. Before witnessing it, he'd half-believed Felicia, thinking she used scare tactics to inflate her fee. But now, he was ready to beg. "Ms. Fuller, please save me! Get this bug out of me! I'm terrified!"
Olivia pleaded, "Felicia, I'm begging you. I apologize for everything. You can hit me, scold meโjust please, save my dad!"
Felicia shook her head. "If it were an ordinary venomous creature, I'd have already removed it. But this is the seedling of the twin venomous creature. Removing the seedling is fatal."
"Isโฆ isn't there any way to cure it?" Olivia stammered.
"There is. To live, he must find the person who implanted the creature. That person possesses the primordial, and only then can I save his life."
Pausing, Felicia offered a clue: the twin venomous creature works by having the seedling endure twice the pain inflicted on the primordial. In other words, someone is using it to ensure they drag him down with them.
"Think carefully, Mr. Adler. Recent contact with enemies or anyone you might have crossed?"
"No, absolutely not!" Lewis insisted. "I haven't been in contact with anyone recently, let alone enemies!"
"Let's consider this differently," she said calmly. "The physicians mentioned your kidney deficiency, which is accurate. Mr. Adler, perhaps you should consider the source of that deficiency?"
He might not have contacted others, but could he say the same about women? His face paled with embarrassment.
