"Oh? Didn't you say you were his woman?" Maurice's tone remained indifferent as his brown eyes scanned Camila from head to toe. He sneered. "I knew it. How could he possibly fall for someone like you?" Camila's face flushed, humiliation evident.
He raised a hand, and his subordinates released her, though they remained behind, awaiting his command.
"Tell me what you know."
"I..." She bit her lip. She had previously claimed Stephan abandoned her, a reason for her continued presence. But now, she could only tell the truthโeverything from their first meeting that morning, her deception, its exposure, and even the day at Stephan's estate when she witnessed his unusual relationship with Felicia.
"Felicia Fuller?" Maurice repeated, a playful smile spreading across his face. "Interesting."
Camila pleaded, her voice trembling. "Mr. Glovers, I've told you everything. Please don't kill me. I beg youโฆ I'll do anything for youโฆ"
He clicked his tongue, wheeled away, leaving only this: "I like obedient people; I can't stand clever women." The meaning eluded her.
Overwhelming fear momentarily stilled her tears. The subordinates immediately stepped forward, seizing her and dragging her away.
"Ah! Let go of me! No! Help! Help!" Camila screamed, struggling as they dragged her toward the crocodile pit. The water shimmered; the giant creatures below, sensing the commotion, surged toward the shore.
"Ah!"
Camila was thrown into the water.
On the villa's rooftop, Maurice watched from a distance, a smile of amusement playing on his lips. "Tsk, useless," he murmured, then looked away, sipping the wine a maid had brought.
One subordinate approached, reporting, "Mr. Glovers, Stephan left Khogend last night and has just landed in Seldvale!"
"Oh?" Maurice's eyes grew cold. "We searched for him and couldn't find him. He was in Khogend. It seems someone there held him."
The subordinate asked, "Mr. Glovers, should we send people to Khogend to capture Felicia? If she is Stephan's woman, we'll have an advantageโฆ"
"No need." Maurice set down his wine glass, smiling widely. "I'll go personally."
The subordinate hesitated, looking worried. "But Mr. Glovers, your legโฆ the coldโฆ you can't leave the hot springsโฆ"
Maurice's smile vanished. "Are you reminding me I'm a cripple?"
The subordinate knelt. "Sorry, Mr. Glovers! That wasn't my intention!"
Maurice snorted coldly, his tone calm. "There's a medical center in Khogend, Harmony Medical Center. Its owner, Clive Walsh, is a master physician, said to be like Hippocrates reborn."
"Yes."
He spun his wheelchair. "Looks like I have no choice but to go to Khogend." The subordinate remained silent, knowing another medical center would soon face trouble.
