Listen to this chapter:

When Felicia stumbled into the Fuller residence, she was covered in blood and limping painfully. Her face was swollen, and her arms and legs bore numerous cuts and scrapes. It was a shocking sight.

Dexter and Myra were stunned. Moments before, they had speculated that Felicia might have staged the incident. But seeing her condition revealed the absurdity of their thoughts.

"Licia, are you okay? I've been worried sick!" Myra exclaimed, pushing Kayla aside and rushing to Felicia's side. Tears streamed down her face. She wanted to help but hesitated, fearing she might cause more pain.

"Get a doctor, now!" Dexter shouted to a nearby maid.

Felicia sat on the couch, her face pale from blood loss, her lips colorless. Only her eyes remained clear and sharp.

"Licia, what happened? Who kidnapped you?" Myra asked urgently.

Dexter nodded. "Just tell us. We'll find out who's behind this."

Felicia ignored them, her gaze fixed on Kayla. Kayla clenched her fists, maintaining an innocent facade. "Felicia, I'm so glad you're safe. We were so worried," she said. "We didn't receive any ransom calls. How did you escape?"

Since learning of Felicia's kidnapping at 10:00 p.m. the previous night, the Fullers had been tirelessly searching for her. Kayla, still attempting to portray Felicia as a fabricator, wondered how a defenseless young woman could have escaped four or five kidnappers unharmed. A subtle smile played on her lips as she waited for Felicia's response.

Felicia smirked, refusing to fall into Kayla's trap. "I know who kidnapped me," she said.

Myra and Dexter looked surprised. "Who?" they asked simultaneously. The Fullers were a prominent Khogend family with both known and hidden enemies. This couldn't be allowed to happen again.

"Someone using the nickname 'Lance.' He's a loan shark and a thug. He ran off after I was rescued and probably hasn't returned to Khogend yet." Felicia continued, "I have no grievances with him. Even minor conflicts wouldn't warrant this."

Felicia was the Fullers' newly acknowledged daughter. There was no way Lance would dare confront the family. Someone else must be involved. Dexter's expression darkened. He was generally kind and had few enemies; he'd never done anything truly terrible. Yet, someone was trying to harm his daughter. This was intolerable.

He gently patted Felicia's head. "The doctor will treat your wounds. I'll send people to investigate immediately. I promise this won't happen again." Felicia smiled, though without conviction.

Kayla's expression soured. "Dad, shouldn't we check Felicia's injuries first? What if they're superficial?" she said, suspecting a ploy for sympathy.

Dexter used his phone to issue several commands. He had the resources to delegate the investigation.

Kayla felt a surge of urgency. If this led back to Melvin, she feared he might reveal her involvement.
