The firecrackers had done their job, sending the grizzly bear into a frenzy. Feeling threatened, it fixated on Felicia, even though she was perched high in a tree. The bear's target was clearโshe was it. It rammed the tree with its full weight, shaking it violently. Feliciaโs grip faltered; her body was jarred so severely that her chin repeatedly struck the trunk. If this continued, the tree wouldn't hold. Her arms and legs were growing numb. But just as despair peaked, a surge of rage flared within her.
"Seriously? Is this how they want to play?" she muttered.
She shot a venomous glare at Maurice, meeting his gaze through the barrier. Her expression was unmistakable. A wicked grin slowly spread across her face, a promise of trouble. Maurice raised an eyebrow, curious but unconcerned.
Then, it hit him. A searing pain shot through his arm.
"What theโ"
Maurice's left arm went limp, dangling uselessly. His tailored suit sagged awkwardly at the shoulder. He stared at Felicia in disbelief.
"Did she justโ"
Oh, she did. Felicia had dislocated her own arm. And thanks to the double-bond effect of the twin venomous creatures, Maurice's pain and injury were magnified. Still grinning, she casually popped her arm back into place with a sickening crackโa gesture as dismissive as straightening a bent paperclip.
Maurice's expression darkened as he understood her plan. Before he could react, she dislocated her other arm. The popping sound was sharp and deliberate, and Maurice immediately felt a corresponding pain tear through his other shoulder. Both his arms hung limp, useless and screaming with agony. Felicia, unfazed, quickly reset her arm. Sure, it hurt, but the satisfaction of watching Maurice's doubled pain? Totally worth it. With her medical skills, it was almost too easy.
"Mr. Glovers!" one of Maurice's men exclaimed, noticing his limp arms. They looked broken.
Maurice took a deep breath, his expression unreadable as he fought the searing pain. He gave her a look that could kill. Now he understood. The twin venomous creatures weren't just a gameโthey were a weapon, inextricably linking their fates. If one died, the other would face endless torment before meeting the same fate.
The bear continued its assault on the tree, readying itself to attack Felicia. Maurice closed his eyes briefly, suppressing his rage. Finally, he ordered, "Bring her back!"
"Yes, Mr. Glovers." His men sprang into action. A few tranquilizer darts later, the raging bear collapsed.
The gate to the enclosure swung open, and Felicia sauntered out, completely unharmed. Her expression was calm and composed. Caesar hurried to Maurice to assess his injuries. After a careful examination, he concluded that Maurice's arms were fractured and would need time to heal. As long as he avoided further injury, there would be no lasting effects.
But Maurice, usually so controlled and composed, looked disheveled. His men wisely kept silent. Felicia, however, showed no such restraint. She let out a soft laugh and taunted him, "Serves you right. Bravo, really."
