Listen to this chapter:

It seemed this challenge hadn't troubled her in the least. Hearing this, Maurice's loyal subordinates became even more convinced he had sent the assassins. They thought he was pushing his luck, playing with fire. Maurice, however, remained unconcerned. He simply ordered, "Keep tailing her. Report back immediately on any updates."

"Yes, sir!" replied the subordinates.

Ending the call, Maurice glanced toward Grandeur Hall and asked the subordinate behind him, "How much did Kelsey spend hiring those people?"

"Two million dollars, sir," the subordinate replied honestly. "Their rates are usually much higher, but since the target was just a young woman, they lowered them."

Maurice laughed. Seventeen subordinates—a supposed sure win—utterly defeated. "Let's go," he declared. "Grab some gifts; we'll pay that old lady a visit."

Maurice, now standing, had abandoned his wheelchair. Though his arms weren't fully healed, it did little to impede his volatile temper.

At Grandeur Hall, Kelsey was shocked by the news. "What? Seventeen assassins couldn't handle one young woman? They're all useless!"

"Mrs. Glover, please stay calm. Perhaps Mr. Glover's subordinates were simply too strong. With them protecting Felicia, the attempt's failure is understandable—"

"Maurice only sent four people! Seventeen against four, and they still lost? What a joke!"

Kelsey's fury mounted, but a frantically winking maid signaled Maurice's arrival, prompting her to end the conversation. Turning, she saw Maurice enter, perfectly unscathed. He wore his usual fake casual smile, yet the authority radiating from him made her stomach churn.

Kelsey clenched her fists. Over the years, Maurice had solidified his control over the Glovers family, making him virtually untouchable. Suppressing her anger, she forced a smile. "Dear grandson, you're here!"

"Just thought I'd check in and bring some gifts," Maurice said, gesturing. His subordinates presented an array of gifts designed to soothe and calm: drinks, snacks, even medication.

Kelsey's smile faltered. Her expression stiffened as she forced out, "How thoughtful, dear. The weather's been so warm lately, and I've been feeling a bit… overheated."

"Really? What a coincidence."

He exchanged more pleasantries, observing her darkening expression. Satisfied, he left.

The moment he was gone, Kelsey overturned the table of gifts. "That ungrateful wretch! Bastard!"

"Mrs. Glover, please calm down. Don't hurt yourself," the maid pleaded, but Kelsey grabbed her wrist. "Did you see how he looked? So arrogant, so smug! That little bastard! If he could kill his own father and brother, it's only a matter of time before he drives me to my grave!"

Kelsey's thoughts fixated on revenge. "If one attempt isn't enough, I'll try again. I'll spend more money, hire fearless assassins—whatever it takes to get rid of that bastard and reclaim the Glovers' name!"
