Listen to this chapter:

Kelseyโ€™s old, raspy voice, teetering on the edge of madness, carried an unrelenting resolve. The maid felt a chill in her heart; she was convinced Kelsey had gone insane. Regardless of how Maurice had risen to power, he was now head of the Gloversโ€”a fact set in stone. If Kelsey continued her reckless plotting against her last remaining grandson, it would doom the family. Once Maurice was gone, the vast Glover residence would instantly fall to outsiders. What then? Could a frail, elderly Kelsey possibly hold the family together alone?

The loyal maid hesitated, then spoke. "Mrs. Glovers Senior, Mr. Glovers still respects you. Besides, he bears the Glover name as well." Having the family in Maurice's hands was preferable to letting it fall to strangers.

Regardless of their mutual animosity, a veneer of harmony remained. Kelsey was still respectfully addressed as "Mrs. Glovers Senior." But if things escalated, would Maurice, given his aggressive reputation, spare her?

The maid, Kelsey's confidante and closest companion for over forty years, had weathered countless obstacles alongside her. Every word she spoke was for Kelsey's sake.

Yet Kelsey let out a cold, scornful laugh. "He's just a bastard child. Do I needโ€”"

"Mrs. Glovers Seniorโ€”"

"That's enough! Don't say another word!" Her expression was murderous. "Those seventeen failures are dead. Good riddance. Go hire another batch of assassins, but this time, no brawlers. I want people who use guns. Tell them that as long as the job is done, money is no object."

"I understandโ€ฆ"

The maid sighed, then left to make the arrangements. With the Glovers' vast influence and wealth, finding assassins was trivial. Moreover, Kelsey, a formidable figure in her youth, retained a critical network of contacts even Maurice lacked.

Within half a day, she received a response. A candidate had been chosen: an assassin known as "Baldy," ranked among the top three on the underground leaderboard. Baldy's record included several high-profile, successful assassinations.

"Excellent!" Kelsey laughed triumphantly. "Send him the target's information. Tell him to be thorough. He can take his time, but the strike must be fatal! I won't tolerate another blunder!"

For the next two days, Felicia remained in the house, diligently working on improved poison pellets. Unlike the earlier wind-dispersed versions, these new pellets were designed to explode on impact, releasing a cloud of poisonous powder. One could never have too many life-saving tools.

After finishing, Felicia checked the news. Three days had passed since the attack, and Khogend remained quiet; there were no reports related to the incident. Maurice's four trusted subordinates had apparently disposed of the seventeen bodies. These assassins were untraceable fugitives. Their disappearance left no trail.

Felicia turned off her computer, lost in thought. Would there be a second attempt? Considering the night's events, Maurice seemed unlikely to be behind the attack. As reckless as he was, he wouldn't risk his own men's lives. The fight had been genuine; they had fought for their lives.
